| UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women has been active in Liberia since 2006, building on former UNIFEM projects, with full Delegation of Authority granted in 2012. The organization is dedicated to fulfilling its triple mandate in Liberia by focusing on normative frameworks, UN system coordination, and programming. With a unique Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (GEWE) mandate, UN Women takes the lead on establishing and advancing normative frameworks. The Country Office (CO) has consistently contributed to developing gender-responsive legal and policy structures and will continue offering technical support to encourage the adoption of gender-sensitive laws. This effort draws from the findings of the 2024 gender discriminatory law assessment and aims to strengthen civil society organizations’ voices in oversight and accountability. Recognized by the Country Portfolio Evaluation, the CO’s normative influence positions it as a key driver for promoting gender-responsive legislation and policies capable of creating lasting systemic change. UN Women is regarded as the leader in implementing global frameworks like CEDAW and Beijing +30, and in advocating for temporary special measures such as mandatory gender quotas and anti-FGM legislation. These priorities are currently under legislative review, and UN Women will persist in supporting advocacy for their enactment. On the operational front, UN Women fosters gender integration within joint programs to enhance support for and the implementation of the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), thereby generating greater synergy and delivering more effective outcomes for women and girls. Beyond collaboration within the UN system, the CO also works with national government institutions to advance Policy Coherence and Accountability through Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting (GRPB). The new Strategic Note outlines UN Women Liberia’s direction from 2026 to 2030, aiming to accelerate gender equality and empower women and girls in Liberia by 2030. This aligns with the intended impact: “Women and girls in Liberia realize their rights and reach their full potential in a peaceful, democratic, and equitable society.” The strategy identifies two specific outcomes: By 2030, people in Liberia—especially children, youth, women, and persons with disabilities—will achieve fair human capital development through improved access to quality and affordable social services, using digital solutions, results-focused approaches, and transparent strategies (UNSDCF Outcome 1: Human Capital Development). Additionally, by 2030, these groups will actively participate in and benefit from policies that foster trust, uphold peace, enforce the rule of law, and strengthen social cohesion and accountability systems at local and national levels (UNSDCF Outcome 2: Governance). Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), in close collaboration with Regional Office ICT team and the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the ICT Associate executes IT services in the country office, implements IT management systems and strategies, provides daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure. The incumbent is responsible for review and advice on the use of new technologies that will enhance the Country office productivity. The IT Associate promotes a client-oriented approach. |

Statements :
In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
