Job Description

The Danish Refugee Council assists refugees and internally displaced persons across the globe: we provide emergency aid, fight for their rights, and strengthen their opportunity for a brighter future. We work in conflict-affected areas, along the displacement routes, and in the countries where refugees settle. In cooperation with local communities, we strive for responsible and sustainable solutions. We work toward successful integration and – whenever possible – for the fulfilment of the wish to return home.

The Danish Refugee Council was founded in Denmark in 1956, and has since grown to become an international humanitarian organization with more than 7,000 staff and 8,000 volunteers. Our vision is a dignified life for all displaced.

All of our efforts are based on our value compass: humanity, respect, independence and neutrality, participation.

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the Danida-funded allocation, three complementary streams of work will be implemented to strengthen evidence-based, gender-responsive protection programming and advance women’s meaningful participation in Jordan. These include: (i) the development of a comprehensive national gender analysis to inform programming and gender mainstreaming; (ii) targeted capacity strengthening of national partners to enhance thematic protection monitoring approaches; and (iii) the implementation of a pilot initiative to promote women’s participation in decision-making processes and economic life, in line with GBV prevention and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.

The Protection Officer will support the design and implementation of a focused initiative aimed at strengthening women’s meaningful participation in protection interventions, decision-making processes, and advocacy efforts in Jordan.

The role will particularly contribute to advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda through capacity building, partnerships, and engagement with government institutions, civil society, and community stakeholders.

  • Provide ongoing technical support and mentoring to trained entities to support practical application.
  • Promote institutionalization of WPS principles within partner and government systems.
  • Engagement with government entities, civil society organizations, and women’s networks and community leaders.
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of advocacy messages promoting women’s participation and rights.
  • Support dialogue and coordination between stakeholders to advance the WPS agenda in Jordan.
  • Represent the organization in relevant coordination forums, as needed.
  • Support donor reporting, internal updates, and documentation of results.
