Job Description

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for Finance Assіstant (Accountant Assіstant) in Sumy.

About the job

Under the supervision of the Finance Team Leader, the Finance Assistant (Accountant Assіstant) is responsible for ensuring overall financial support and day-to-day administrative functioning of the DRC South Area, as well as supporting the implementation of DRC program activities within the area of responsibility.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Perform day-to-day transactions and bookkeeping in accordance with the national legal requirements of Ukraine, methodological accounting principles for NGOs, as well as corporate policies and donor rules, including: fixed assets, materials, funds, settlements and other assets, equity and liabilities, income and expenditures, and accruals.
  • Maintain fuel accounting records.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ensure that all relevant financial, contractual, and accounting documentation is properly filed in hard copy and scanned and stored in the project’s digital files.
  • Record transactions in BAF (1C Accounting).
  • Prepare and file scanned copies of supporting documents for cash and bank vouchers.
  • Review contracts, acts of completed works/acceptance certificates, and supplier invoices, and maintain primary documentation in compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that the organization remains compliant with the latest regulations, in line with changes introduced by the government from time to time.
  • Provide support during external audits by supplying the required supporting documentation upon request.
  • Monitor the latest changes in Ukrainian labor, tax, and accounting legislation.
  • Participate in inventory counts of assets, funds, settlements, and liabilities; perform write-off of inventory (TMC) in accordance with accounting standards and in compliance with DRC policies.
  • Calculate and ensure payment of daily allowances for business trips.
  • Perform other financial tasks as assigned by the Finance Team Leader.

About you

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the accounting field. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • University degree in a relevant field (Finance, Economics) or equivalent.
  • Strong accounting and financial literacy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online banking systems.
  • High level of accuracy in paperwork.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced organizational skills.

Desirable

  • Proficiency in English is preferred.
