Job Description

The Position:

The Communications Intern will work closely with Programme Specialist - Advocacy and Partnership at the UNFPA Cambodia Country Office to support UNFPA Cambodia’s communications and digital engagement work under Country Programme 7th (2024-2028), with a strong focus on youth participation, SRHR, GBV prevention, and positive social norm change. The Communication Intern will contribute to content creation and design artworks, social media management, human-interest storytelling, campaign support, and digital analytics. The role will also assist with communications for events, advocacy initiatives, and public information products that help increase the visibility and impact of UNFPA’s programmes in Cambodia.

A work-plan with achievement for the duration of the internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

Job Purpose:

UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.

You would be responsible for:

Under the direct supervision of the Advocacy and Partnership Specialist, the intern will contribute to and support the following tasks:

  • Assist in developing digital content, including social media posts, photos, short videos, infographics, graphics, and youth-friendly stories highlighting UNFPA’s work.
  • Monitor social media trends, engagement (reaches, comments, views), and provide analytics/reports to inform better targeting of stakeholders and strategy development.
  • Contribute to youth-focused both outreach and digital campaigns on SRHR, GBV prevention, gender equality, and positive social norm change, including planning and documentation.
  • Assist in preparing communication materials for events, launches, and workshops, including briefs, visual assets, presentations, and simple talking points.
  • Support adherence to UNFPA branding guidelines and contribute to routine visibility efforts across programme teams.
     

Qualifications and Experience: 

The Internship Programme aims to attract talented persons including students and graduates who possess a specific interest in, or whose academic background and skills align with—enhancing the visibility, communications, advocacy, and impact of UNFPA Cambodia Programmes. Eligible interns must possess some relevant professional interest and experience. This internship is open only  to candidates of Cambodian nationality.

Education:  

  • Be enrolled in a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and have completed one full academic year; 
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as master’s programme or higher); 
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; 
  • or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • With this internship being part of our Communication Unit, preference will be given to candidates with an academic background or interest in: Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Creative Writing, Information Technology, Gender, Humanities, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Compensation and Benefits:

Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party (such as an academic institution, university, government) are eligible to receive a stipend as a contribution towards living expenses. The stipend is paid at the end of each month.

In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins. UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns. 

Provision of Workstation and Equipment: 

Interns will be provided with a workstation within the office to perform their assigned duties. Laptops will not be issued by the organization.

Working Hours and Flexible Arrangements and Leaves:

Interns are required to observe the official working hours established by the UNFPA office to which they are assigned (Monday-Friday, 40 hours a week). 

Subject to the approval of their supervisor, interns may benefit from flexible working arrangements, including flexi-time, compressed work schedules, and remote work within or outside the duty station. Any such arrangements must remain consistent with organizational policies and ensure that the intern’s responsibilities and outputs are delivered in a timely and professional manner. 

Interns are entitled to leaves in accordance with the Policy for Internship, as well as the official UN holidays observed in Cambodia for the year 2026.
