Job Description

Title of Assignment: World Intellectual Property Day Campaign Consultant

Name of unit/sector: News and Media Division, Sector of the Director General

Place of Assignment: WIPO Headquarters, 34, chemin des Colombettes, 1211 Geneva 20, Switzerland

Expected duration of assignment: The contract is expected to run from June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027, inclusive (renewable based on performance, organizational needs, and budget availability, up to a maximum cumulative duration of 24 months at a 100% activity rate)

1. Objective of the assignment

The Consultant will reinforce the implementation of the annual World Intellectual Property Day campaign, with a strong focus on story sourcing, content creation and social media outreach in dynamic intellectual property (IP) related realms. The Consultant will create content across a range of topics illustrating how IP is used by people to turn ideas into market realities and address common global challenges, while supporting economic and national development for everyone, everywhere.

This consultancy is located in the News and Media Division in Geneva, Switzerland. Strong preference for in-person work. 

2. Tasks and deliverables

The Consultant shall deliver the following outputs on a results-based and time-bound basis, in accordance with an agreed workplan and delivery schedule:

Tasks:

•     Support the roll out and delivery of the annual World IP Day campaign.
•     Plan, design, implement and monitor creative digital communications strategies and content to ensure effective outreach to external audiences, especially youth, women and SMEs, building on WIPO’s existing communications assets.
•     Liaise with other in-house partners to ensure promotion of the campaign among key constituents and target audiences, including via digital media.
•     Roll out and coordinate the World IP Day Youth Video Competition and its promotion.
•     Coordinate with relevant in-house teams and track deliverables for the annual campaign.
•     Compile and analyze web and social media statistics as necessary and report on campaign results. 
•     Manage the World IP Day mailbox and respond to enquiries as necessary.

Deliverables:

•     Concept note and design brief for the 2027 World IP Day campaign.
•     12 scripts for the 2027 World IP Day campaign videos.
•     24 video scripts or web stories to raise awareness of inventors, creators and/or entrepreneurs working in the area of the World IP Day campaign theme.
•     Campaign wrap-up report and close monitoring of campaign KPIs.

3. Reporting

The Consultant will work under the supervision of the Media Officer in the News and Media Division. The supervisor will evaluate the Consultant’s work and certify delivery of work.

4. Profile

Education

Essential: 

  • University degree in a communications-related area, social sciences, or other relevant discipline.

Experience

Essential: 

  • At least two years of experience in external communications for a public or private sector organization.
  • Excellent portfolio with a proven track record of successful communication strategy examples.
  • Experience in story telling through the creation of high-quality content (written and/or video) and media performance evaluation (KPIs, analytics).

Desirable:

  • Experience in corporate social media management and the creation and publication of social-media content.
  • Experience working in developing-country contexts and on cutting edge technology issues.

Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent creative writing skills, including film scripting.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Excellent ability to work quickly and calmly under tight deadline requirements.
  • An eye for detail and a high level of accuracy, good understanding of political dynamics and diplomacy.
  • Ability to grasp new ideas and subjects quickly.

Desirable:

  • Social media management skills.
  • Ability to work with visual media software platforms, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of WIPO and IP.

Languages

Essential:

  • Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian or Arabic.

5. Duration of contract and payment

The consultancy is expected to run from June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027, inclusive, renewable based on performance, organizational needs, and budget availability, up to a maximum cumulative duration of 24 months at a 100% activity rate.

Payment will be made on a monthly basis, subject to submission of invoices by the Consultant, satisfactory completion of services and deliverables.

Applicants are requested to provide an indication of their remuneration expectations in Swiss francs (daily rate).

6.    Other information

ICS contractors fall outside the coverage of employment contracts for WIPO Staff members and are not subject to the WIPO Staff Regulations and Rules. The contractor has no entitlement to vacation or sick leave, except for WIPO official holidays, or to medical insurance or staff pension. Absences from work will be deducted from the contractor’s payment on a pro-rated basis.
