Job Description

The purpose of the assistant’s position is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of the education project. Education technical assistant will support all field-level operations including NRC direct implementation and partner implementation (school repair, Better Learning Program (BLP), catch up programs, youth programs, NFI and others).

Generic Responsibilities

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines, with strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies.
  • Assist a range of support with the implementation of the Education CC portfolio according to work plan.
  • Implement and monitor project activities upon workplan under coordination of Education Project Coordinator.
  • Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support are being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team.
  • Use initiative in day-to-day problem-solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities, and standards for the area of work
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees, and the host community in line with SPERE and INEE Minimum Standards.

Specific Responsibilities

  • To assist in the implementation of education activities under the direction of the Education Coordinator.
  • Provide support to NRC school repair, BLP, youth, and catch-up activities, NFI in line with NRC quality standards.
  • Ensure direct communication and feedback with project participants and relevant host communities.
  • Ensure ongoing monitoring and reporting of projects at the field level.
  • Maintain and regularly update databases used by the Education Team to ensure accuracy and data integrity
  • Regularly travel to the field to support education, recreation, and psycho-social support (PSS) activities (direct and partners’ implementations).
  • Organize, and support teacher training, education personnel training, and training of trainers (ToT) training on subjects including teacher wellbeing, child protection, and psycho-social support.
  • Follow up on school repairment activities in coordination with the Shelter team and other relevant NRC Core Competencies.
  • Follow up on partners' activities in coordination with the Education Coordinator.
  • Identify community-based organizations / other local organizations for potential PSS/Mental Health/catch-up and youth partnerships and support the coordination.
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.

Generic professional competencies:

  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts; ability to remain calm and professional in tense situations.
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook required.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel and proven track of record of applying MS Excel in the previous roles.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting.
  • Experience in handling supporting documentation related to procurement processes, including agreements, invoices, and acceptance acts, is an asset.
  • Experience working in the education sector in Ukraine is an asset.
  • Experience working in a humanitarian/emergency context is an asset.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian, both written and verbal required; intermediate English language skills required.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Good understanding of the education system in Ukraine. Knowledge of the Education in Emergencies context is preferred
  • Understanding of the circumstances, needs and challenges trauma-affected children face
  • Understanding of the role of education in meeting the needs of trauma-affected children
  • Experience working with children and/or educators; MoES-level experience a plus
  • Experience in community mobilization and/or relationship building
  • Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree preferred
