Job Description

Step into a role that doesn’t just lead a team, it leads a new way of responding to young people in crisis. As Team Leader for our Mobile Youth Outreach, Short Term Remand pilot in Wagga, you’ll guide a dynamic, on‑the‑ground service that meets children and young people 10-17 years, where they are, offering safety, stability, and connection to culture and community at the moments that matter most.

This is your chance to shape an innovative model that only our organisation delivers, enabling us to respond faster, intervene earlier, and create better outcomes for children and young people who are at risk of moving into the justice system. We’re looking for someone who brings calm leadership, sharp judgement, and deep understanding of youth justice, and culturally and trauma‑aware practice. Someone who can inspire a team to deliver exceptional care in a number of environments – schools, youth justice centre, community ovals.

If you’re ready to lead a service that’s as agile and courageous as the children and young people it supports, this is the role for you.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities. From our programs to our support services - this is the place to realise your purpose.

In this part-time (22.8 Hrs Mondays to Thursdays, max term until 30 June 2027) role, you’ll work as a part of our Mobile Youth Outreach, Short Term Remand Pilot program team in Wagga* to help us create lasting change for children everywhere.

* You will be expected to travel up to 25% of the time to various locations in Wagga including Riverina Juvenile Justice Centre, schools, community settings, and partner organisations to oversee program delivery, conduct outreach activities, and represent 54 reasons at relevant meetings and forums.

You will make a difference by:

  • Leading and developing a dedicated and driven team, including providing professional supervision.
  • Supporting the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Mobile Youth Outreach program in Wagga.
  • Building strong relationships with the Elders, Aboriginal organisations, schools, local community, local councils, police, youth justice, health and education and confidence in the program.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the program, including service delivery, budgets, administration, risk management and compliance.

A place to feel valued:

Your deep expertise in juvenile justice reform, youth development, and supporting young people who have interacted with the justice system stands out. You’re an enthusiastic, committed leader with proven experience delivering high‑quality, child‑and family‑centred services and managing a high‑performing team. Your strong cultural awareness, sensitivity, and excellent communication skills help you build trusted community networks and lasting relationships. You embrace challenges and are always looking to grow and develop.

This role requires:

  • Proven leadership skills, the ability to nurture a cohesive, agile, high performing team.
  • Ability to drive and role model child and youth centred, family focused approach in service provision within a team.
  • Experience working with children, young people and families of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
  • A genuine passion to support and manage a high-performing team to meet and exceed objectives and achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
