How can you make a difference? 

Background:  UNICEF works with governments, development partners, and the private sector to advance the rights and wellbeing of children in Kenya. The Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) portfolio is an important and growing component of UNICEF Kenya Country Office Resource Mobilization Strategy, contributing to flexible and thematic funding as well as programmatic innovation.

 Scope:  Under the joint supervision of the Partnership Specialist and Communication Specialist, and general oversight of the Chief of Section, the intern will support private sector fundraising initiatives for high-value fundraising (individuals, corporates and foundations), digital fundraising initiatives, and donor engagement. The role will also support knowledge management for the section including Sharepoint for document repository, efficiency, visibility, and donor engagement.  The intern will also support the media monitoring for UNICEF Kenya and other development agencies to support benchmarking for UNICEF’s visibility in social and traditional media for the duration of the internship.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

A. Resource Mobilization

  • Support in desk research and mapping of prospective corporate, foundation and philanthropic high-net worth individuals.
  • Support coordination and logistical arrangements for donor meetings and field visits, including preparation of briefing notes and presentations.

 B. Knowledge Management

  • Develop and maintain a structured SharePoint filing system aligned with office standards.
  • Support the maintenance of CAP’s SharePoint site.
  • Organize CAP documents within the SharePoint filing system for efficiency. These documents include donor proposals, investment cases, briefing notes, donor databases, and the like.
  • Support media monitoring of UNICEF Kenya vis a vis other organizations in Kenya catering to children, and provide benchmarking reports for visibility in social and traditional media (weekly and monthly).
  • Assist in any knowledge management task that may be assigned from time-to-time.

5. Expected Deliverables

By the end of the assignment, the intern is expected to have:

  1. Organized and updated CAP section SharePoint site.
  2. Structured and up-to-date donor database and private sector prospect mapping database.

Eligibility & Minimum Requirements

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Have graduated within the past two years in Communications, Marketing, Business Information Communication Technology, or similar fields.  
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.

Experience and Skills:

  • Strong digital proficiency (Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams), website management, and social media channels required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • Creative writing and editing skills are desired.
  • Strong research and analytical skills are desired.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and digital design tools (e.g., , Adobe Photoshop, Canva) required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Conditions

  • In accordance with UNICEF's guidelines, all interns must receive a stipend.
  • There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship
  • UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern
  • Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons
  • Interns shall observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions and procedures and directives of UNICEF.
