Internal candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), UN Volunteers with at least twelve (12) months of continuous service in IOM, and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.
Organizational Context and Scope
Under the overall supervision of the Senior Project Coordinator, the direct supervision of the Project Team Leader, Protection and in close coordination with the Facility Coordinator, Open Center; the incumbent will be based in the Open Center (OCAVRR) and support in the implementation of protection activities under the programme “The implementation of assisted voluntary returns including reintegration measures and operation of Open Center in the Prefecture of Attica for applicants of voluntary return (AVRR/OCAVRR)”.
- Perform initial psychological assessments for referred migrants in the Open Centre. Identify and follow-up on pre-existing mental health conditions and their treatment in close coordination with the in-house medical team. Maintain a comprehensive and updated case file for each case undertaken, follow up on protection cases, and ensure quality case management.
- Provide psychological support and individual/ group counselling sessions and refer cases to psychiatrists for further support. Accompany vulnerable cases to their psychiatric appointments as needed.
- Organize and conduct psychosocial activities, focus group discussions and awareness-raising group sessions with beneficiaries on mental health topics.
- In coordination with supervisors, liaise as needed with other teams and units in AVRR/ OCAVRR on case management and to ensure beneficiaries’ basic needs are met. Provide regular reports and/ or updates on the work being accomplished within the team to supervisors and team members.
- Prepare and submit regular reports, including case management reports and statistics.
- Develop and maintain an efficient mental health referral system for migrants in coordination with other AVRR/OCAVRR teams. Conduct regular mapping of national and humanitarian mental health services available to migrants at the Open Center, ensure access of services and refer cases accordingly.
- Provide regular feedback on work being accomplished to the Project Team Leader, Protection and team members and keep supervisors immediately informed of any issues requiring their attention. Actively participate in team meetings on case management.
- Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all paperwork by implementing control procedures in line with IOM standards of conduct and data protection rules. Alert the supervisor of any non-compliance to SOPs or codes of conduct by IOM staff members or partners.
- Demonstrate a general understanding of relevant AVRR SOPs; as well as the ability to remain professional, impartial and unbiased during all interactions with migrants and colleagues per the IOM Code of Conduct and instruction on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- University degree in Psychology (Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology or similar) from an accredited academic institution with minimum three years of work experience.
- Master’s degree in above fields an advantage.
- Registration or chartered membership with the Greek Psychological Association required.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
- Minimum three years previous work experience in a similar role;
- Experience working in an emergency and/ or post-conflict setting an advantage;
- Familiar with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees;
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment;
Skills
- Demonstrates strong time management skills;
- Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise correspondence, including formal/ official reports and project narrative reports;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting;
- Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
- Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles;
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to keep deadlines;
- Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Word, MS Excel) is mandatory;
- Valid driver’s license with at least five years driving experience an advantage.
Languages
All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
For this position, fluency in English and Greek is required (oral and written).
