Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Angola brings together all the UN entities working on sustainable development in the country and leads the United Nations Country Team (UNCT). Its main goal is to ensure joint planning and working together and ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government of Angola, through the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which guides the UN country team’s development program cycle, in joint agreement with the Government. The main functions of the resident coordinator office include but not limited to strategic analysis and planning; oversight of the UN country programming cycle; representation and support of UN Secretariat and UN Agencies including those without formal presence in Angola; support the national coordination systems and processes; development and management of shared operational support services; crisis management preparedness and response; external communication and advocacy; human rights and political Development; joint resource mobilization and fund management; and general UNCT oversight and coordination. Under the direct supervision of the RCO Head of Office, the intern will be hosted at the Resident Coordinator Office, and he/she carry out tasks related to communications and advocacy. Responsibilities: 1. Research topics and issues, and produce draft documents on these 2. Monitor media and prepare draft versions of media clippings or media monitoring reports 3. Support in the management and monitoring of social media 4. Provide clerical support, e.g. management of lists or databases 5. Assist drafting of speeches and talking points 6. Perform other tasks as assigned
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Preferred studies: Applicants must have have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme or higher in Communications, Journalism, marketing or related field and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation. - Demonstrate sound writing skills, with the ability to draft clear, well‑structured and concise communication materials - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to provide continuous and accurate data input, is required - Familiarity with graphic design tools and other communications tools is required
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English and Portuguese is required for this internship. Knowledge of another UN language would be desirable.
