Duties and Responsibilities
The Political Affairs Section (PAS) of OSESGY supports the Special Envoy and the Office leadership in monitoring political developments, conducting analysis, and providing timely political advice, with a view to facilitating the Special Envoy’s engagement and the resumption of the political process. Being based in Amman at the Office’s headquarter, the consultant is expected to have broad networks and play an instrumental role in communicating and coordinating with Yemeni actors across the region. Description of consultancy: Information Analysis: Gather, select, and analyze political information from various sources. Document Drafting: Prepare briefing notes, background papers, talking points, meeting summaries, and sections of reports. Monitoring: - Keep updates on political developments through meetings with Yemeni and other stakeholders. - Keep abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assignment and provide inputs on issues to senior officials and colleagues when required. - Develop and maintain networks of interlocuters, - Monitor national and regional level political developments and provide advice. - Monitor actions taken by UN organizations, government and non-governmental organizations.
Qualifications/special skills
Master’s degree in political science, international relations or related field. A first level university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in political affairs is required. Strong familiarity with the political situation in Yemen is required. Experience in support of mediation process is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of United Nations. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic (both spoken and written) is required.
