Job Description

Mission and objectives

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency, mandated by the UN General Assembly to ensure every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. It works in over 150 countries to achieve three transformative results by 2030: zero unmet need for contraception, zero preventable maternal deaths, and zero gender-based violence. UNFPA’s work is grounded in the Programme of Action of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). The core mandate includes: Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights: Promoting universal access to reproductive health, including family planning, maternal health, and HIV prevention. Gender Equality: Ending gender-based violence (GBV), harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM), and empowering women and girls. Youth Empowerment: Supporting adolescents and youth to transition healthily into adulthood and reach their potential. Population Data: Assisting countries in collecting, analyzing, and using demographic data for development planning, including census support.

Context

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the lead UN agency working to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. As part of its 2026-2029 strategic plan, UNFPA is committed to expanding its humanitarian response capacity to safeguard the lives of women, adolescents and youth, particularly adolescent girls. This effort includes addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and mental health and psychosocial issues. The UNFPA West and Central Africa Regional Office is committed to strengthening adolescent girls’ programming across West and Central Africa to address critical gaps in protection and empowerment. As part of this strategic goal, we are adapting the "Girls Are in Action" (GAIA) Toolkit—a comprehensive curriculum designed to support adolescent girls in emergency settings, including those at risk of or experiencing child marriage and early pregnancy. Originally developed for the Mozambique context, this toolkit provides essential guidance on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), and socio-emotional life skills. To facilitate a successful rollout across the region, we require a professional translation of the curriculum from English into French, ensuring that implementing partners and frontline facilitators have the culturally sensitive tools needed to support the safety, health, and leadership of adolescent girls.
