SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflict and natural disasters for over 40 years, responding to their basic needs for food, water, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death worldwide, SI applies its expertise in the areas of access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, as well as in the essential areas of food security and livelihoods. Present in more than 20 countries, teams made of expatriates, national employees, permanent staff at headquarters, and a few volunteers work with professionalism and commitment while respecting local cultures.
SI has been in Myanmar since 2008, first responding to the devastating Cyclone Nargis. In 2011 and 2012, SI expanded to new regions focusing on
Livelihoods, Food Security, Shelter, and WASH sectors. SI is currently mainly operating in Rakhine and in Kachin States with outreach emergency
capacities through its local partners in other locations. The operations are supported by a Coordination team based in Yangon.
While continuing to support the vulnerable communities suffering from a long-term protracted crisis, SI is also developing a stronger and more
responsive Emergency component, either directly or through local partners, to tackle the growing needs spreading across the country.
Projects are currently funded by FCDO, ECHO, CIAA, CDCS and UN agencies with potential for development in terms of geographical coverage
and activities’ scope to address the emerging needs.
The WASH coordinator contributes to Solidarités International strategy by proposing a sector-based strategy in the field of WASH.
He/she
guarantees the quality of proposed technical approaches and ensures the appropriateness of WASH activities
He/she coordinates the project cycle and the operational monitoring of WASH programs.
He/she contributes to capitalization and improvement of Solidarités International methods and techniques in WASH.
The level of representation is important on the mission. It involves the monthly WaSH cluster in Yangon, the participation to the SAG of WASH Cluster, regular meetings with donors when required.
SI also holds the WASH Leadership role in consortia, including some with local partners implementing emergency to post emergency responses.
The WASH Coordinator with the support of WASH teams will be strongly involved in the capacity assessment and building of partners.
Remote management (very limited access to the field). Challenges linked to context understanding (strong limitations in place in Rakhine for the moment) + remote control of acitivities implementation.
High volume of programming in partnerships (international and national/local) + SI positioning on WASH technical control and monitoring for such consortia.
WaSH focal point for first line response consortium implemented through partners with other INGOs
PRIORITIES ON THE 2-3 FIRST MONTHS
Finalizing the restructuring of the WASH/Programs OrgChart in Rakhine
Strengthen and streamline SI WASH leadership in Emergency Response consortium.
University level degree, preferably a Master’s degree in Water Sanitation and Hygiene related sector, Engineering, Environment and/or Geology.

A salaried position:
According to experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 EUR base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 600.
SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment.
Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.
Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
LIVING CONDITIONS:
The WaSH Coordinator position will be based in Yangon with visits to field offices in Mandalay and Sittwe. In Yangon, SI provides very good living conditions in its guesthouse. All commodities can be found (supermarket, restaurant, live entertainement, sports clubs and gyms). There are no restrictions on transportation and expatriates usually walk or bike to the office.
Internet and telephone networks in Myanmar can at times be lower in quality and reliability. Service is generally acceptable in Yangon, although there may be specific internet restrictions imposed by the authorities.
