Job Description

54 reasons deliver the Family & Child Connect (FaCC) service, providing culturally safe, early‑intervention support to children, young people, and families experiencing vulnerability—especially First Nations and CALD communities. FaCC partners with families to build on strengths, strengthen cultural and community connections, and navigate challenges early through practical guidance and supported referrals. Grounded in cultural safety and trauma‑informed, strengths‑based practice, the service plays a critical role in reducing risk, supporting wellbeing, and empowering families to feel heard and respected.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities. From our programs to our support services - this is the place to realise your purpose.

A place to make a difference:

In this full-time maximum term (till December 20026), you’ll work as a part of our 54 reasons Family & Child Connect team in Mount Isa to help us create lasting change for children everywhere.

You will make a difference by:

  • Delivering culturally safe, strengths-based support to First Nations and CALD families
  • Building trusted relationships with families, communities, and service partners
  • Assessing needs and develop practical, family-led support plans
  • Connecting and advocating for families to access the right services and supports
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and meet program and organisational requirements

A place to feel valued:

Your deep expertise in family support and early intervention with First Nations and CALD families will be invaluable. You’re a respectful and culturally responsive practitioner who builds trust quickly, listens deeply, and works alongside families in a strengths-based way — translating empathy and good judgement into practical, meaningful outcomes for children and families. You bring curiosity, accountability, and confidence in navigating complex situations, and you balance compassion with clear professional boundaries. Your approach supports collaboration, promotes self-determination, and contributes positively to a supportive team culture.

This role requires:

  • Identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and/or CALD (as permitted under relevant legislation)
  • Experience working with children and families in community, family support, or early intervention settings
  • Strong understanding of cultural safety, trauma-informed and strengths-based practice
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with families and service partners
  • Relevant qualification in Community Services, Social Work, or a related field (or willingness to work towards)

A place to belong:

At 54 reasons, we invest in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 600 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

It takes all types of people to do the challenging work we do. We are diverse personalities, backgrounds and talents, embracing our differences as one strong and united team. We see and celebrate the unique value you bring to our organisation, and offer a range of rewards for your effort, including:

  • Generous award rate salary (Level 4.1 – currently $44.58 per hour) plus super and full salary packaging benefits - use this link to see how much this benefit could mean to you!

  • Support for workplace wellness, including access to our free, confidential Employee Wellbeing Program
