Job Description

Mission and objectives

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA supports: • Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for all, particularly women and girls in more than 150 countries – home to more than 80 per cent of the world’s population. SRH includes;  The health of pregnant women, especially the 10-15 million who face life-threatening complications each year  Reliable access to modern contraceptives sufficient to benefit 20 million women a year  Training of thousands of health workers, particularly midwives to help ensure at least 80 per cent of all child births are supervised by skilled attendants  Prevention of teen and early pregnancies, complications of which are the leading cause of death for girls 15-19 years old  Delivery of safe birth supplies, dignity kits and other life-saving materials to survivors of conflict and natural disaster • Prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), one of the most common forms of violence today affecting 1 in 3 women across the globe • Abandonment of female genital mutilation, which harms 3 million girls annually • Gender-responsive, age appropriate Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) • Efforts to end child marriage affecting 12 million girls every year • Countries in development of youth policies and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health policies and action plans. • Population census, demographic health surveys, research, data collection and analysis, which are essential for development planning as well as in humanitarian settings

Context

UNFPA, in collaboration with national and local partners, supports Women-Led Organizations (WLOs) as key actors in preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV), promoting gender equality, and advancing social norms change. Through the WLOs initiative, selected organizations receive programmatic and institutional support to implement community-based interventions aligned with national priorities and UNFPA’s strategic objectives. Effective implementation of the WLOs initiative requires close coordination, timely follow-up on procedural and programmatic requirements, adherence to agreed standards, and systematic reporting on progress and results. To strengthen day-to-day coordination and monitoring, UNFPA seeks to engage a National Youth UN Volunteer (NUNV) to support the management of the WLOs initiative and facilitate follow-up between UNFPA, the umbrella implementing partner (IP), and supported WLOs. The NUNV will work under the direct supervision of the Social Norms Specialist with the technical oversight of the M&E Specialist, contributing to effective implementation, accountability, and results achievement across the WLOs portfolio. Additional Information: National UN Specialist Volunteers in Sudan are entitled to: - Monthly Volunteer Living allowance (VLA) at amount of 1597.24 USD. - danger and Hardship Differential DHD: 5750.1 USD. - Annual and learning leaves. - Free Medical and life insurance. - Free access to different learning platforms.

Task Description

The National Youth UNV will provide programmatic, coordination, and reporting support to the WLOs initiative, ensuring timely follow-up on procedural and implementation requirements of selected proposals, supporting adherence to UNFPA and donor requirements, tracking progress against results, and facilitating communication and coordination between UNFPA, the umbrella IP, and Women-Led Organizations. Duties and Responsibilities: Programmatic and Coordination Support ● Support day-to-day management of the WLOs initiative, including tracking activities, milestones, and deliverables of supported WLOs. ● Follow up on the procedural and programmatic implementation of selected proposals in coordination with the umbrella IP. ● Support coordination and communication between UNFPA, the umbrella IP, and WLOs to ensure smooth implementation of planned activities. ● Assist in organizing coordination meetings, review sessions, and learning exchanges with WLOs and partners. ● Support follow-up on action points, commitments, and decisions related to the WLOs initiative. ● Support the umbrella IP with capacity building training sessions. Monitoring, Reporting, and Results Tracking ● Support timely collection, consolidation, and review of narrative and activity reports from WLOs through the umbrella IP. ● Track progress against approved workplans, indicators, and results frameworks, flagging delays or challenges to supervisors. ● Contribute to internal updates, briefs, and progress reports for UNFPA management and donors as required. ● Support documentation of good practices, lessons learned, and success stories from WLOsupported interventions. ● Support basic review of submitted documents to ensure completeness and alignment with approved proposals and workplans. Support to Social Norms and GBV Programming ● Assist the Social Norms Specialist and GBV Unit in integrating social norms and GBV priorities within WLO-supported activities. ● Support coordination of WLO activities with broader GBV and social norms initiatives implemented by UNFPA. ● Participate in field visits, monitoring missions, and community engagements as required. Knowledge Management and Administrative Support ● Maintain organized records and databases related to WLO proposals, reports, and correspondence. ● Support preparation of presentations, summaries, and briefing notes related to the WLOs initiative. ● Perform any other related duties as assigned by the GBV Head of Unit or Social Norms Specialist.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
