Contract Duration

Interns are required to work full time for a period of six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement).

The Opportunity

The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charges with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crime of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through the international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. Organisational Context

The Office of the Prosecutor investigates and prosecutes genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by nationals of a State Party or on the territory of a State Party on or after 1 July 2002, the date of entry into force of the Rome Statute. It has two Prosecution Pillars, incorporating investigators, trial lawyers and analysts, and a Division of Integrated Services centralising the specialised support functions that provide cross-cutting support to the Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting the Office of the Prosecutor’s mandate in one of the following functional areas: (Please mention which functional area you are applying for when you submit your application)

• Investigations & Analysis: Assist with evidence collection, OSINT, crime pattern analysis, database management.
• Legal (Judicial & Administrative): Assist with research, drafting, case preparation, disclosure, appeals.
• International Cooperation: Assist with draft requests, secure State cooperation, research, reporting.
• External Affairs: Assist with briefing notes, speeches, event organisation, diplomatic engagement.
• Immediate Office of the Prosecutor: Assist with research, drafting, meeting support, presentations.
• Public Information: Assist with media monitoring, social media, photography, public outreach.
• Forensic Science: Assist with field mission prep, forensic documentation, video/image analysis, 3D modelling.
• Information & Evidence Management: Assist with eDiscovery, data processing, legal tech workflows; software development.
• Operations: Assist with security/geopolitical research, database maintenance, travel risk reports.
• Language Services: Assist with trminology management, multilingual database support, CAT tools integration.

Required Qualifications

Education:

All Candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognised university, either at bachelor or higher levels. The degree should be related to one of the following or similar areas: law, international relations, political science, IT, forensic science, languages, or related fields.

Experience:

Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers. Practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court may be considered an asset, but should not exceed 3 (three) years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.
  • Possesses good teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).
  • Has a high standard of computer skills.

Knowledge of Languages:

Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or of a Situation language is an asset.

Remuneration

Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement.

Applicants must therefore be able to support themselves for the entire duration of their internship or visiting professional placement.
