External relations

The Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) is a strategic partner of UNHCR, having made its first financial contribution to the organization in 1979. As a former aid recipient who has now become a significant provider of Official Development Assistance (ODA), the Korean Government has made impressive strides in enhancing development cooperation. Over the past few years, it has successfully increased the volume of its humanitarian assistance and ODA. In 2016, the Republic of Korea joined UNHCR’s USD 20 Million Club and has maintained this membership since then.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of UNHCR Korea External Relations Team, External Relations Intern roles includes:
• Provide quality translation of key documents, including press-releases.
• Support report compilation for internal and external audiences.
• Support organizations of internal and external events.
• Draft social media postings.
• Conduct research.
• Manage and coordinate visibility items.
• Support administrative work of the Office as needed.
• Perform any other duties are required

Desirable qualifications and skills

• Knowledge of the International Cooperation Development field is preferred. Any experience related to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korea International Cooperation Agency, International Organizations, CSO, or Humanitarian work field is preferred.
• Excellent knowledge supported by training in MS Word, MS Presentation, and MS Excel PeopleSoft.
• Experience relevant to Communication and design skills is recommended.
• Drafting and Documentation skills; Cross-cultural communication and Interpersonal skills; Social Media Publishing/ Monitoring/ Designing skills; and translating.

The candidate may be requested to sit for a written test.

Conditions

It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in UNHCR Korea.

This internship is sponsored by KOICA. The applicant should hold Korean citizenship and is between 19 and 34 year. The maximum age limit for those who served in the military will be extended accordingly: one year will be extended for those who served for less than one year; two years will be extended for those who served for more than one year and less than two years; three years will be extended for those who served for two years or more.

KOICA will fund KRW 2,200,000 directly to the intern and the difference between UNHCR internship allowance as per the relevant policy may be covered by UNHCR.

Previous participants of the KOICA Young Professional Program may not be eligible for the program.
