Job Description

Background:

By providing financial and technical support to projects that conserve and restore the environment while enhancing people's well-being and livelihoods, SGP demonstrates that community action can maintain the fine balance between human needs and environmental imperatives.

Description of Responsibilities : 

The major responsibility in the team is to support The GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) mainly focusing on: 

  • Support workshop/training organized by the team; 
  • Support project monitoring and evaluation related documents including project reports and publications; 
  • Translate, proofread, and edit SGP related documents; 
  • Draft and update project information on internal database and website; 
  • Maintain regular communication with NGO partners via email; 
  • Support content review and publication of NGO partner materials on social media and other outreach platforms; 
  • Attend meeting and draft meeting minutes; 
  • Assist with administrative and financial actions related to project recruitment and procurement; 
  • Perform other ad hoc assignments as required by the team. 

Competencies:

  • Fluency in English and Chinese 
  • Background in environmental management, communications, business administration, international organizations, or other relevant fields 
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems 
  • General understanding of the work of NGOs, environmental sustainability and international development issues. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft clear and concise documents in both English and Chinese. 
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in documentation and proofreading. 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines. 
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content publishing, and basic design tools is an asset. 

Qualifications : 

Education and Experience 

Master’s degree in environment or international development is desirable. 

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: 

  1. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher); 
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent); 
  3. Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; 
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
  5. Experience in developing research communication products would be an advantage. 

Language and Skills 

  • Excellent written and spoken Chinese and English language.

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS 

  • Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme.    
  • Interns, whether engaged in-person or remotely, are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide self-certification of good health prior to starting the internship. Any cost arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern. 
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed; Cost and arrangement for travel, visas, passports, accommodations and living expenses are the responsibility of the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or the intern. 
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
