ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The General Secretariat directs administrative, human and financial resources and activities of the Union, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication/ICT matters for operational and other purposes, and the provision of legal advice to the whole of the Union. The General Secretariat coordinates the implementation of the Strategic Plan, monitors the telecommunication/ICT environment and recommends as needed action relating to the Union’s future policies and strategy. The General Secretariat ensures inter-sectoral coordination and cooperation to advance a whole of ITU approach (One-ITU) in headquarters and the field. The General Secretariat provides logistical and information technology support to the Union’s activities including conferences and global forums; the coordination of the work of the Union with the United Nations system, and other international organizations; and the engagement of the Member States, Sector Members, and Academia. The General Secretariat manages corporate governance, and strategic communications and relations with the media, different stakeholder groups as well as the general public.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Within the framework of the Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition, ITU is seeking a dynamic intern to join the P2C Secretariat and support the Coalition’s overall communication activities. The Partner2Connect Digital Coalition is ITU’s global alliance aimed at mobilizing and announcing new resources, partnerships, and commitments for universal, meaningful connectivity and sustainable digital transformation. Under the supervision of the P2C Project Officer, the intern will:

  • Prepare (design, write, produce) communication and marketing materials, including the P2C Flash and P2C Newsletter, to promote the Partner2Connect Digital Coalition
  • Create content for social media on a weekly basis (e.g. social media cards, captions, GIFs)
  • Produce analysis, statistics, evaluation charts and status reports related to the P2C Community
  • Assist the Secretariat with pledge mobilization and reporting efforts, including drafting inputs for management briefings
  • Contribute to the maintenance and regular updates of the P2C website
  • Assist in the organization and execution of periodic and ad-hoc events
  • Support the maintenance of the P2C community database
  • Support other activities of the P2C Secretariat, as required

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

Education: University degree in communication or a related field will be favorably considered during the selection process.

Experience: Experience in communications, community management, social media promotion, conducting research, and preparing publications will be considered during the selection process. Advanced use of IT tools and a strong interest in the ICT sector will also be valued. Previous experience in database management, content creation and promotion, as well as event organization, will be viewed positively.

Languages: English at advanced level. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) would be an advantage.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate should be highly organized, concerned with accuracy and the quality of information, flexible, and able to maintain a positive attitude under pressure. Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and social media platforms, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software applications, is required. Previous experience with Mailchimp, WordPress, and Canva is appreciated. The ideal candidate must be able to work well individually, as part of a team, and in a multicultural environment.

ITU Internship Requirements:
To be eligible for an internship at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), candidates must:
• Be under 30 years of age (Exceptions may be considered for candidates pursuing a Ph.D.).
• Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate programme, or be a recent graduate(within six months prior to the start of the internship).
• Be a citizen of a Member State of ITU.

Please note that a non-remunerated internship at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a short-term or fixed-term position. Medical insurance, travel, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
