Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Head of Programme Coordination and Innovation Unit, the incumbent will support programme coordination and donor liaison, including partnership coordination, project and programme development and other on-going activities in the IOM Nigeria Country Office, as needed.

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Support resource mobilisation and fundraising efforts by providing programme coordination nd direct support to partnership coordination, networking, donor engagement, liaison, programme development and planning. 
  2. Support the Head of Programmes and the Chief of Mission in identifying potential programme activities for the future development of the Country Office donor engagement portfolio, including preliminary research on potential funding opportunities among government and non-government donors, reviewing calls for proposals, and collecting donor information. Draft donor mapping, profiles and guidance notes on donor priorities, and support efforts to expand the IOM donor base.
  3. Support effective working relationships with donor counterparts and project/programme partners, such as government authorities, diplomatic missions, and other relevant agencies and working groups.

  4. Contribute to research on potential funding opportunities among government and non-government donors, review calls for proposals and collect donor information. Draft donor profiles and guidance notes on donor priorities.

  5. In coordination with relevant units in the CO, draft visibility and other resource mobilization materials and organize donor briefings and visits.

  6. Review resource requirements, document programmatic needs, gaps and opportunities.

  7. Assist in conducting analysis and preparing regular progress reports on partners and donor landscape. 
  8. Contribute to the alignment to IOM global, regional and country strategies during project development and donor reporting, with UN partner agencies, government and donors.

  9. Support the Project Managers in drafting donor reports, in close coordination with relevant units in the CO and RO in line with IOM policies, standards and internal procedures.

  10. Support of knowledge management, maintain accurate, updated and pertinent records of all correspondences, project development and donor and institutional reporting files, and related resource mobilisation information in IOM’s relevant software application.

  11. Participate actively in conferences, workshops and meetings related to the thematic areas of expertise as required. 

  12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in International Relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Work experience in donor relations and grant management for specific donors of IOM’s interest.

  • Experience in supporting results-based project development and reporting, technical writing and editing, preferably in the international development/humanitarian sector.

  • Experience working in an international organization or multi-stakeholder environment is an advantage.

SKILLS

  • Good communication, writing and organizational skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports. 

  • Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation concepts, approaches and methodologies.

  • Confirmed experience in donor report writing in humanitarian and/or development settings. 

  • Experience with Results-Based Management approach and other strategic planning approaches.

  • Strong analytical and planning skills; capacity to establish working relationships with governmental authorities, national and international institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations.

  • Capacity to supervise and train support staff; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional background.

  • Ability to work with accuracy under constraints and pressure; high sense of confidentiality, initiative and good judgment.

  • Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, drive for results, creative thinking.

  • Good level of computer literacy, including database applications.
