Job Description

This post is a limited-term fixed-term post.

 

 

1.     Organizational Context

a. Organizational Setting

The position is located in the Diplomatic Engagement and Assemblies Affairs Division of the Sector of the Director General.

b. Purpose Statement

The incumbent performs the duties related to the position of driver both within and outside the Organization.  He/she drives an official service car to transport the Director General, staff members, equipment, documents and supplies.

c. Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the supervision of and reports to the Protocol Manager.

 

2.     Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

a.  Meets, in rotation with the other drivers, the needs of the Organization (including driving the Director General or any other senior official and/or high-level visitor on official business) bearing in mind that these services may be required beyond the normal working hours of drivers (7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.).

 

b.  Collect and deposit inter-organizational mail at the Palais des Nations daily.

 

c.  Performs, in rotation with the other drivers, any errands with one of the official service vehicles between WIPO and various official institutions (international organizations, consulates, permanent missions, agencies of the State of Geneva, banks, airport, post office, etc.).

 

d.  Settles expenses for visas, document legalizations and other expenditure with the appropriate fund and reports to the line manager.

 

e.  Respond to official service requests from line managers.

 

f.   Perform routine maintenance, cleaning and refueling of the assigned vehicle.

 

g.  Perform other related duties as required by the Division.

 

 

3.     Requirements

 

Education (Essential)

Secondary education or equivalent.

 

Experience (Essential)

At least one year's experience of similar work as a professional driver.

 

Experience (Desirable)

Experience driving VIPs.

 

Languages (Essential)

Excellent knowledge of French or English and good knowledge of the other language.

 

Languages (Desirable)

Knowledge of another official UN language.

 

Job-Related Competencies (Essential)

Valid Swiss driving license and a good driving record.

 

Self-management and initiative in compliance with internal rules and regulations.

 

Good general appearance, discretion, tact and courtesy.

 

Time management skills.

Good knowledge of Geneva and the surrounding area.

 

Knowledge of international organizations.

Mobility:  WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities of the Organization. Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions.

Annual salary (Net of tax):  66,679 CHF

Additional Information

* Initial fixed-term appointment of one year, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and other applicable conditions.  The selected candidate's appointment will be subject to an overall term of five years in this position, with normally no possibility of renewal beyond that term.  S/he may, however, apply and be considered for other positions at WIPO.

This is not applicable to WIPO staff members on fixed-term, continuing or permanent appointments, who were recruited following a competition under Staff Regulation 4.10 (“Appointment Boards”).

Dependency allowances

7,939 CHF per year for dependent spouse;  6,398 CHF per year for each dependent child.

Language allowance

Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish: 4,788 CHF per year for two of these languages, and 3,192 CHF per year for one of them.  The allowance is not payable for the mother tongue or the main working language of the staff member.  The grant of this allowance is subject to examination.

General Service posts are generally subject to local recruitment.  Staff in the General Service category is recruited in the host country or within reasonable commuting distance of the Headquarters.
