This position will be hired for the Environmental Health and WASH research group under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division. The Senior Research Assistant will support a research project aimed at improving hand hygiene in Rohingya camps by developing and testing an innovative handwashing package that ensures continuous soap availability at shared stations. The study includes prototype development and field piloting in selected institutions in Cox’s Bazar to evaluate feasibility, usability, and user acceptability. The ideal candidate should have a strong expertise in environmental health and WASH, along with critical thinking and problem-solving skills and be able to support field implementation, data collection, and routine monitoring while maintaining high ethical and operational standards.
Duties and responsibilities
The position holder will report to Associate Scientist and will be responsible for:
- Assist in prototype testing and basic laboratory assessment of the large liquid soap dispenser for public place use;
- Support field implementation, installation, and monitoring of handwashing stations in selected institutions in Cox’s Bazar;
- Assist in organizing FGDs/interviews and stakeholder feedback activities;
- Conduct surveys, observations, and user-experience assessments as per study protocols;
- Collect and manage data related to soap availability, dispenser performance, and handwashing behavior;
- Maintain accurate field documentation and ensure compliance with research procedures;
- Support preparation of project reports, presentations, and scientific documents as needed.
Required qualification and experience:
- Master’s degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Health.
- at least 3 years' of experience in relevant field.
- Experience in coordinating field activities and supervising data collection teams.
- Skills in quantitative/qualitative data collection, analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
- Prior work in low-resource or humanitarian settings is an advantage.
- Ability to support prototype testing, field monitoring, and basic lab tasks.
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Location: Mohakhali Campus, Dhaka.

Contract Type and duration:
Short term Contractual Service Agreement (CSA) basis; duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Tk. 47,873/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
