icddr,b is seeking a Communication Specialist to support the development and delivery of strategic communication initiatives that help translate its research and public health work into policy, practice, and public understanding. Brief Description of the Position:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications, the role will play a key part in shaping how icddr,b’s work is communicated to policy makers, partners, media, and the wider public.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the development and delivery of strategic communication and advocacy initiatives that reflect institutional priorities and respond to real-world public health challenges.
- Translating complex scientific research into clear, engaging stories that inform policy, practice, and public understanding.
- Writing, editing, and refining high-quality communication materials, including feature stories, speeches, opinion pieces, policy briefs, donor updates, and key web content.
- Working with national and international media by preparing press materials, coordinating interviews, supporting spokespersons, and assisting during sensitive or high-profile situations.
- Helping shape and coordinate communication campaigns linked to research dissemination, branding, fundraising visibility, and major institutional events, in close collaboration with design and digital colleagues.
- Identifying newsworthy research and developments, and developing content for websites, blogs, newsletters, infographics, and selected multimedia products.
- Providing editorial and copy-editing support for flagship institutional publications, including the annual report and other key outputs.
- Working closely with scientists, programme teams, donors, government counterparts, and partners to strengthen icddr,b’s internal and external communications and public profile.
Required qualification and experience:
- Master’s degree in Communications/Journalism/Public Relations/Marketing, or a related field with an excellent academic record from a reputed University;
- At least seven years of professional experience in strategic communications, media relations, advocacy, content development, copywriting, or journalism, preferably within research, development, or public health contexts.
Location: Mohakhali Campus, Dhaka.
Contract Type and duration:
Fixed-term appointment for two years, with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Annual salary of BDT 19,82,790/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance allowance, and other admissible benefits
- 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.2,492/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
