UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
In Indonesia, UN Women works with government, civil society organizations (CSOs), academia, the media, the public and private sectors to address national priorities of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Placing the advancement of women’s rights at the centre of our work and aligning with UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2021-2025, UN Women Indonesia focuses on (1) Inclusive human development through ending violence and discrimination against women and build women’s leadership to build sustainable peace, (2) Advance value-added and transformative economy by supporting women’s economic empowerment, (3) Gender-responsive approach to building climate resilience and disaster risk reduction, and (4) Using innovation and data to leverage gender-responsive governance.
One of the key areas of concern is the economic empowerment of women. This Consultancy position will provide support for the following tasks under the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) programme:
In 2010, UN Women and the UN Global Compact launched the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) which set of 7 principles that provide companies a roadmap to become more gender-responsive throughout their value chain. The WEPs is the only framework that encompasses gender equality at all organizational levels, beginning with leadership and providing guidance for the workplace, marketplace and community, underpinned by a strong emphasis on accountability and transparent reporting of progress. With continued support from The Government of Australia’s Department of Foreign and Trade (DFAT), the UN Women Asia-Pacific launch the Gender Action Lab (GAL), which aims to further advance business sector action to accelerate gender-responsive business policies especially in four priority countries, namely Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia and Cambodia.
The Consultant will support the implementation of the WEPs Corporate Action Lab for Indonesia. Using an action lab approach, WEPs Corporate Action Lab is a collaborative, hands-on method to tackle complex problems, fostering creativity and innovation through group discussions, prototyping, and action-oriented learning, ultimately leading to the creation of gender-responsive solutions for a cohort of business sector committed to gender equality. The focus of the Indonesia Lab this year is on creating family-friendly workplace policies and strengthening employee-supported care; therefore, corporates participating in the Lab will pilot and implement various solutions around this topic.
