Save the Children is looking for a passionate WASH & Nutrition Officer to be part of the Helti Pikinini, Helti Vanuatu Project at our Luganville Office to make a real impact on child health and nutrition across Vanuatu!

Where you come in:

The WASH and Nutrition Officer will help deliver Save the Children’s integrated health and nutrition project supporting children aged 0–5 in Vanuatu. The position will work closely with communities to strengthen water security, sanitation, and access to nutritious food. The role includes developing community WASH action plans, supporting climate-resilient water systems, promoting community-led sanitation initiatives, and driving behaviour change activities. The position will also help lay the groundwork for food security interventions, strengthen local vendors to offer affordable nutritious options, and support community food preservation systems.

You will make an impact by:

Community Engagement & Implementation

  • Supporting community entry, dialogue, and participation in WASH CAP planning and implementation.
  • Mobilize leaders, caregivers, and volunteers for WASH and food security activities.
  • Coordinate community sensitization events and facilitate CAP sessions, hygiene promotion, and food preservation training.
  • Mentor community volunteers and mothers’ groups on good WASH practices and communication.

Coordination & Partnerships

  • Work closely with Area Secretaries, health workers, and Nutrition/WASH agents to roll out project components.
  • Liaise with MOH, Department of Water Resources, MoAG, schools, churches, and community groups to support WASH and food preservation activities.
  • Represent Save the Children at community-level coordination meetings when required.

Logistical & Operational Support

  • Provide support for procurement, construction monitoring, data collection, and training needs.
  • Assist in organizing and monitoring CAP-related activities to ensure quality delivery.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Track participation, CAP progress, and behaviour change outcomes.
  • Report regularly to the Program Manager and document success stories, lessons, and promising practices.

Safety, Wellbeing & Child Safeguarding

  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, report hazards, and contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a child-safe environment, comply with safeguarding policies, and consistently act in the best interests of children.
  • Respond appropriately to any concerns regarding a child’s safety or wellbeing.

This role requires:

  • At least 2 years of experience working in project delivery and community mobilization, preferably in WASH, infrastructure and/or Community Action Planning and nutrition programming/ related projects
  • Familiarity with participatory approaches and community engagement strategies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in Bislama and English
  • Experience working in rural contexts, preferably within Shefa Province

Required qualifications and/or accreditations:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Community Development.
