Compensation and benefits: MSF practice is to offer the C&B package current in the MSF entity establishing the contract.

I. Board Strengthening Program

The Board Strengthening Program (BSP) is an international governance support capacity which is embedded in the International Association Team (IAT) and funded by the International Board. The BSP provides: 1) Mentoring and coaching services to board members in conjunction with the Mentoring and Coaching Hub (MSF-Norway). 2) A comprehensive set of learning and development activities, including basic governance trainings (virtual and F2F), trainings for chairs, and a set of e-learning modules produced in conjunction with Tembo. 3) Tailored training packages as well as facilitation and team coaching services for individual boards. 4) Board audit support. 5) A webinar series on current topics. 6) A repository of Best Practice. 7) Capacity building service to Board Support staff. And 8) Support to IGA Representatives with induction services.

 

II. POSITION BACKGROUND

One of the core activities of the BSP is to offer a wide range of learning and development opportunities. The program implements a set of on-line and F2F governance and chairing skills trainings, including a growing set of e-learning modules. The BSP also offers ad hoc, tailored on-line and F2F trainings to individual boards. Part of the learning and development package is a set of webinars and informal cafes on emerging topics of interest. We are also launching the development of a set of written ‘off-the-shelf’ learning materials on common topics and themes to complement our digital offer. The Learning and Development Specialist will work closing with the Learning and Development Coordinator on these projects.

The BSP is also working with the People Management Unit and Tembo on providing an integrated learning needs assessment platform and a learning hub where all the BSP offers can be easily accessed. The Learning and Development Specialist will work closely with the Digital Communications Officer to develop these new tools and better automate the provision of the learning and development opportunities.

The Learning and Development Specialist joins a team comprised of the Learning and Development Coordinator (20%), a Program Manager (80%), the Digital Communications Officer (20%), and the Mentoring and Coaching Coordinator (20%). The BSP draws on a pool of six external governance trainers and three external team coaches.

III. PLACE IN THE ORGANISATION

The Learning and Development Specialist reports to the BSP Program Manager. The Learning and Development Specialist will work closely with the Learning and Development Coordinator and the Digital Communications Officer in the implementation of the BSP’s learning and development activities. The Specialist will work closely with the BSP trainers.

 

IV. OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

The purpose of the position is to provide specialist learning and development support to the development of the BSP’s learning and development activities. This is not a coordination position, but a technical support position as described in detail below. The Specialist will also assist with the implementation of direct board support activities, working closely with the Program Manager.

 

V. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the Learning and Development Coordinator, the Specialist develops, designs, and revises BSP course materials and documentation consistent with the BSP’s pedagogical approach. Specifically:

    1. Uses identified learning objectives to develop new digital and F2F course materials and activities

    2. Implements the ‘off-the-shelf’ and written materials project

    3. In collaboration with the BSF trainers, updates current course materials, learning activities, lesson plans, activity notes, and facilitation notes for modules, cross-referencing content between modules

    4. In collaboration with the L&D Coordinator, develops scripts and storyboards for new e-learning modules, presentations and video and audio content

    5. In collaboration with the L&D Coordinator, participates in the evaluation of content and learning activities, making revisions based on participant and training team feedback and results

  • Working with the Digital Communications Officer, provides oversight of the content development of the new BSP Learning and Development Hub with TEMBO

  • Implements the Learning Needs Assessment system in collaboration with the People Management Unit (PMU)

  • Shares the workload with the Program Manager for the implementation of direct board support activities, including facilitating retreats and conducting tailored online and F2F board trainings

  • Participates in the strategic planning process of the BSP
