Job Description

Mission and objectives

UNDP supports strategic capacity development initiatives to promote inclusive growth and sustainable human development. Together with national, regional and local authorities, civil societies, private sector, UNDP strives to support Ukraine in its efforts to eliminate poverty, develop people’s capacity, achieve equitable results, sustain the environment, and advance democratic governance. UNDP is in line with 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to achieve national strategic capacity development.

Context

The Tech Volunteers for Resilience (Tech4R) initiative — a joint effort between UNDP ICPSD and UNV — mobilizes skilled digital professionals to co-develop open-source tools that support resilience, recovery, and inclusive development across Europe and Central Asia. Under this initiative, UNDP Ukraine, in collaboration with Tech4R, is developing a Digital Accessibility and Universal Design Self-Assessment Tool for Youth Centers in Ukraine. The tool will allow youth centers to evaluate the accessibility of their facilities and services, visualize results, and plan improvements through a simple and interactive digital interface. The UX/UI Design Volunteer will ensure that the platform’s layout and functionality reflect universal design and accessibility principles, meeting the needs of users of different abilities and backgrounds. The assignment directly contributes to rebuilding youth infrastructure that is inclusive, usable, and equitable, aligning with Ukraine’s national recovery efforts and UNDP’s focus on human-centered design.

Task Description

The Volunteer will be expected to: • Design user-friendly, accessible, and responsive interfaces for the tool. • Ensure visual consistency and compliance with universal design and accessibility standards (WCAG). • Create mockups and prototypes for testing with target users. • Collaborate with low-code builders, accessibility experts, and content teams. • Recommend improvements to enhance usability and inclusivity. • Support final visual refinements before tool delivery. This is an unpaid volunteer assignment.
