Mission and objectives
UNESCO's founding mission, which was shaped by the events of World War II, is to advance peace, sustainable development and human rights by facilitating collaboration and dialogue among nations. It pursues this objective through five major programme areas: education, natural sciences, social/human sciences, culture and communication/information. UNESCO sponsors projects that improve literacy, provide technical training and education, advance science, protect independent media and press freedom, preserve regional and cultural history, and promote cultural diversity. UNESCO assists in the translation and dissemination of world literature, helps establish and secure World Heritage Sites of cultural and natural importance, works to bridge the worldwide digital divide, and creates inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication. UNESCO has launched several initiatives and global movements, such as Education For All.Context
The Tech Volunteers for Resilience (Tech4R) programme mobilizes skilled digital volunteers to co-create open-source solutions that strengthen resilience and inclusive education. This assignment supports the Gamified and Simulation-Based Safety Trainings for Children project, co-led by UNESCO Ukraine and Tech4R, to create a digital platform that helps children aged 10–16 learn safe behaviors in emergency situations through gamified and AR-based learning. The project aims to make safety education accessible and inclusive across languages, ensuring that children and educators in different linguistic regions of Ukraine can use and benefit from the tool equally. The Localization & Language Review Volunteers will ensure that all digital and educational content — including app interface, instructions, storylines, and voiceover scripts — are accurately translated, culturally appropriate, and aligned with the project’s emotional safety principlesTask Description
