Job Description

The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS) – Equity Growth Capital & Project Finance Department (EGPF) – EIC Investment Services Division (3-EIC) – EIC Operational & Business Support Unit (OBS) – (Associate) Portfolio Monitoring Officer*.

This is a full time temporary position at grade 4/5.

The term of this contract will be 3 years.

The existence of this position is linked to the EIC Partnership Advisory which is foreseen until 31.12.2035.

Panel interviews are anticipated for end of November 2025.

Purpose

The European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund is the equity investment arm of the EIC programme with a mandate to invest between EUR 1-10m in equity to selected European start-ups in the Deep tech space. The current portfolio of companies managed in the EIC Fund consists of approximately 300 companies and is expected to grow to 500-600 companies over the following years, making it one of the largest Deep tech VC Funds in Europe. EIB acts as the investment adviser to the EIC Fund.

As (Associate) Portfolio Monitoring Officer, you will carry out regular and ad hoc monitoring, reporting and analytics activities of the EIC Fund investment portfolio.

Operating Network

The successful candidate will report to the Head of EIC Operational & Business Support Unit (OBS) and cooperate closely with the other team members in the EIC Investment Services Division.

Considering that the EIC Fund was only set-up formally in 2022, many of the procedures, processes and systems for portfolio management and reporting are still under development, allowing for the successful candidate to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art processes.

You will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out and producing analytics of the EICF Fund equity investment portfolio
  • Supporting in carrying out regular portfolio valuations
  • Creating internal procedures and processes for portfolio monitoring and reporting and support in the implementation of relevant systems and tools,
  • Providing support in collecting periodic and ad hoc monitoring reports from investee companies,
  • Other activities in view of operational needs and creating efficient and scalable processes and procedures for the portfolio monitoring, reporting and management of the EIC Fund portfolio.

Accountabilities

  • Take responsibility, liaising closely with the HoU, HoD and other members in in the Division, in developing efficient, scalable and accurate portfolio monitoring and reporting procedures. Create action plans for implementation and coordinate the implementation of such procedures and processes.
  • Take responsibility in coordinating, liaising closely with external valuators, bi-annual valuations of the transaction portfolio and prepare valuation and portfolio performance reports as requested by external stakeholders
  • Support the implementation of relevant transaction and portfolio management systems in the EIC Fund. Ensure adherence to data governance standards, including data integrity, completeness, and consistency across systems.
  • Participate in defining, refining, and updating KPIs used for portfolio performance monitoring and risk assessment.
  • Produce ad hoc and periodic operational, policy and/or financial analytics reports as may be required. Prepare presentations and present the results internally and to relevant EIC Fund stakeholders whenever requested.
  • Monitor the developments in the underlying transaction portfolio and flag potential risks and issues based on pre-agreed KPIs. Conduct ad-hoc reviews in response to macroeconomic or market events.
  • Prepare portfolio updates and insights as may be requested for instance on thematic industry areas and/or company characteristics, to investment decisions, exit readiness valuations and much more.
  • Carry out any ad-hoc information request and/or potential horizontal task assigned by the management.
  • Draft technical specifications for new automated reports. Work closely with IT and data teams to test new reporting features and validate data accuracy. Identify gaps in existing portfolio tools and propose improvements or integrations (e.g., dashboard upgrades, linking valuation logic with reporting tools).
  • Take part in implementing a data-driven approach within the EIC Fund building sustainable, automated systems and processes capable of efficiently handling a rapidly growing portfolio.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, Business Engineering, and ideally supplemented by postgraduate studies, and/or relevant training in financial sector analysis, data analytics or management.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience including in venture capital, private equity finance, fund management or in an investment fund environment.
  • Knowledge of the venture capital industry (investment or fund related).
  • Excellent knowledge of the standard MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, PowerAutomate).
  • Solid experience in data management, handling (relational) databases, data analytics and data visualization.
  • Experience in portfolio management and portfolio management and reporting tools (e.g. Vestberry) would be a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of SQL, working with Data Warehouses and/or data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau) is considered an advantage.
  • Interest and/or experience in European venture capital and passion towards supporting innovative European start-ups.
  • Knowledge of the EIB's mission and activities.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (***), with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.

(***) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
