Mission and objectives

As the United Nations lead agency on international development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities, and to build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work is concentrated in three focus areas; sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience.

Context

The SENTRUM Project (Sustainable Energy-Based Tourism Implementation Center) is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Türkiye), and Enerjisa Energy. The project aims to promote sustainable tourism models that integrate energy efficiency, cultural heritage preservation, and community-based development. SENTRUM supports destinations in adopting green transformation practices through renewable energy solutions, capacity-building programs, and sustainable business models for local communities. It supports energy efficiency, women’s entrepreneurship, youth participation, and local economic empowerment in selected pilot destinations such as Birgi and Küçükköy, SENTRUM creates collaborative, experiential spaces for learning, showcasing good practices in sustainable tourism. As part of expanding SENTRUM’s impact and fostering youth engagement, this assignment seeks young volunteers to support local sustainability efforts. Volunteers will actively contribute to community-based tourism activities such as eco-guided tours, interactive children’s workshops, public awareness actions, digital storytelling, and support for women-led local production hubs. This role will help promote sustainable tourism practices at SENTRUM locations and foster meaningful youth participation.

Task Description

The Online Volunteer will support the The SENTRUM Project in Volunteer coordination, content creation, educational support or any other related task given below. • Support facilitation of sustainable tourism workshops and public outreach activities • Provide guided support to visitors at SENTRUM centers in Birgi and Küçükköy and assist with storytelling around local sustainability features • Co-organize and run educational activities for children and youth • Produce creative content (photo, blog, video, etc.) about SENTRUM activities for social media • Assist in documenting and evaluating activities; gather community feedback • Collaborate with women producers, local artisans, and tourism stakeholders on site • Contribute to local campaigns related to climate, energy, and cultural heritage awareness • Participate in coordination meetings with UNDP and local teams, if needed
