DRC Syria

DRC has been operating in Syria since 2008, initially responding to the Iraqi refugee crisis before pivoting to a full-scale response to the Syria crisis from 2011 onwards. Our work encompasses the full cycle of displacement—responding to life-saving humanitarian needs and supporting community recovery until durable solutions can be achieved. DRC Syria takes an area-based approach to supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities across our key sectors: Economic Recovery and Resilience, Protection, WASH, Shelter and Infrastructure, and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (including Humanitarian Mine Action).

With an established rapid response mechanism, DRC can rapidly respond to emerging crises and shocks to meet acute emergency needs. Recognizing the significant need for early recovery and resilience programming to ensure dignified, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for fragile communities, DRC’s programmes foster resilience for individuals and communities in situations of protracted displacement and during the initial stages of post-conflict recovery, towards a durable solution of their choice. With active portfolios in the neighboring countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Türkiye and Iraq, DRC offers a cross-border, regional response to the Syria crisis, through cross-border protection monitoring, advocacy, and trends analysis.

About the job

The IT Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the IT infrastructure while supporting improvements in DRC’s IT sector. This includes assistance in providing technical support and planning support to future initiatives to increase the in-country capacity.

This role has a country focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within DRC-Syria. The role contributes to the development of country strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to country operations while overseeing country activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Planning, designing, documentation, and implementation of various systems to include desktop PC’s, servers, network equipment, and software applications and domains.
• Monitor the internet connection and bandwidth ensuring that Service Level Agreements are adhered to.
• Safeguard DRC data by use of security policies and procedures and implement a backup and recovery procedure.
• Implement a capacity building plan, including budget, in participatory way, which should include various methodologies, including mentoring, training and advice.
• Monitor, plan, and coordinate the distribution of client/server software and service packs.
• Perform preventive maintenance service on the IT equipment on a scheduled basis.
• Perform general repairs on some IT equipment and peripherals.
• Make recommendations for new equipment and services to purchase and work with various vendors for procurement liaising with the procurement and logistics manager.
• Inventory management of all ICT materials.
• Provide support to staff in all field offices in relation to Internet.
• Travel to Field Offices and provide IT related support.
• Advice on new technologies and draw plans for implementation.
• Close coordination with other support services teams to ensure smooth onboarding of new and exiting staff.
• Focal person for all IT needs of staff (internet, equipment, phones, IT supplies)
• Lead the annual procurement plan for entire country operation including field and participate in tendering process
• Provide additional and backup support to other Support services functions as instructed by Line manager.

Experience and technical competencies:

• 2 years of experience in similar positions
• Proven experience of digitalization of workflows
• Proficient user of MS applications and Business Intelligence applications
• Experience in preparing and monitoring IT procurement plans and budgets

Education:

• University or professional degree in information technology, computer systems, or a related field.

Languages:

• English – Advanced proficiency
• Arabic – Fluent
