A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide.

Context

For the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign 2025, UN Women Uganda seeks to strengthen advocacy messaging by ensuring all campaign materials use inclusive and survivor-centered language. This research will examine the latest UN Women and UN system guidelines on gender-inclusive language, as well as scholarly and institutional studies on best practices in inclusive communication. Findings will help shape campaign content and contribute to future communication guidelines that reflect an intersectional approach, including considerations for persons with disabilities and marginalized groups.

Task Description

• Define research parameters in collaboration with UN Women Uganda’s Gender and Communications Focal Points. • Identify, review, and analyze scholarly and institutional resources on gender-inclusive and survivor-centered language. • Extract lessons and good practices applicable to advocacy around ending violence against women and girls. • Present findings in formats suitable for both technical use and campaign advocacy. Deliverables • Comparative analysis report (10–12 pages, MS Word) referencing at least 5–7 scholarly sources. • PowerPoint summary (10 slides) for internal briefings and campaign planning. • Reader-friendly fact sheet (2 pages, with infographics) for public awareness during the 16 Days campaign. • Short advocacy brief (2–3 pages, with one infographic) highlighting key findings and recommendations for use in campaign messaging.
