Mission and objectives

UNESCO MGIEP focuses on achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4.7 towards education for building peaceful and sustainable societies across the world by developing programmes and products that promote social and emotional learning, innovate digital pedagogies and empower the youth. UNESCO MGIEP‘s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) interventions draw on the science of learning and aim to build intellectual and emotional intelligence among learners through innovative pedagogies.

Context

UNESCO MGIEP is a category-1 research institute under UNESCO, focusing on research and capacity building in the areas of education for peace and sustainable development. As part of its initiative to expand the scientific understanding of peace, MGIEP is conducting a research study that aims to explore the links between individual qualities and peace related outcomes such as attitudes towards peace and peace-oriented mindsets, across 6 countries (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh) in the South-Asia region. Research methodology includes a detailed online survey (45-50 mins in duration) that consists of questions capturing individual preferences, opinions, as well as unique viewpoints of youth. The outcome of this research study will directly inform the peace education initiatives and program, especially the ones aimed at young individuals. Who can take the survey? Youth in the (1) age group of 18-25 years (2) having intermediate/advanced level of English proficiency; this may include students at universities, members of youth organizations, etc. The data collected from participants will be kept completely anonymous and confidential. In addition, no personally identifying information will be collected from participants. Evidence of quality participation from the desired number of youth participants will be used as a criteria for ensuring process quality. Contribution of UNVs will be highly relevant to UNESCO MGIEP’s SDG goal 4.7, i.e., education for sustainable development and global citizenship, through the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence. They will gain valuable insights about field research and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) processes through their participation. The work done by UNVs will be crucial to the effective inclusion of youth from diverse backgrounds in getting their voice heard in this wide-spread study on peace.
