Your responsibilities

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering Department (EN). You will join the the EN-EL-EPM team to work on the upgrade of the electrical infrastructure of the large LHC experiments (Atlas, Alice, CMS, LHCb) and on the electrical supply of a new radio-frequency (SRF) facility.

You will support the project management and engineering team on the study, execution and coordination of the whole electrical work package. The scope of the projects covers a wide range of medium and low voltage systems and equipment aimed to supply the experimental facilities.

The role includes technical and organizational tasks:

  • Identify needs and requirements from users, and supporting them
  • Participate in site surveys
  • Prepare studies and cost estimations
  • Procurement of material and services
  • Follow up of on site works up to commissioning and handover to Operations
  • Preparation of project documents (reports, change requests, specifications, etc)
  • Budget follow up and cost analysis
  • Follow up on schedule (master planning and execution planning)
  • Development of quality plans and documents
  • Participation to project and coordination meetings

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Good understanding of power systems and electrical networks
  • A previous professional experience in the domain of the electrical distribution for industrial facilities or power utilities
  • Excellent team-working attitude
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.

  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
