Your responsibilities

As a Junior Electrical Engineer, within the Beams Department, you will join the BE-EA-EC cabling team to work on projects for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and CERN's experiments. The teams scope is to optimise and maintain the infrastructure and provide strong support to the physicists.

In this position, you will support the team leader and engineering team with studying, executing and coordinating complex technical cabling.
Specifically, you will:

  • Identify needs and requirements from users;
  • Participate in the construction and assembly phases of equipment, including the production of prototypes;
  • Prepare technical studies and cost estimations;
  • Read electrical drawings;
  • Participate in workshop activities for assembling cabling, connectors and electrical equipment;
  • Support the procurement of material and services;
  • Participate in work and reception tests on CERN site;
  • Prepare and follow up of on-site works up to installing cabling related to physics experiments;
  • Prepare project documents (reports, change requests, specifications, etc.) and review prepared documents by contractors and other groups;
  • Prepare estimates and invoice;
  • Develop quality plans and documents;
  • Participate in project and coordination meetings;
  • Support the ongoing training for team members on new technologies and best practices in cabling;
  • Implement and monitor rigorous quality assurance procedures.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Professional experience in the electrical domain;
  • Initial experience with Industry standards and Electrical Safety Systems;
  • Experience using related electrical software packages would be an advantage;
  • Ability to manage several activities simultaneously and meet tight deadlines;
  • Good writing skills;
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
