Job Description

The Senior Director, Resource Mobilization and Partner Engagement leads a division of experienced Business Development professionals, focusing on securing and managing funding across various teams, product lines, and service areas (PL/SAs). Emphasizing markets such as the US government and other governmental and multilateral agencies, the Senior Director collaborates closely with the Corporate and Foundation Relations team within Business Development and Partnerships to develop compelling proposals and pitches that increase funding from corporations and foundations.

In partnership with the Vice President, Business Development and Partnerships and the Strategic Growth team, the Senior Director creates comprehensive 3-year resource mobilization plans. These plans incorporate market and competitor insights, strategic positioning, and alignment with organizational goals across different segments. Additionally, the Senior Director assesses win probabilities, provides ongoing business intelligence, and forecasts opportunities to meet annual sales targets. This role is pivotal in client management and partner engagement, driving the strategy for long-term funding sustainability and organizational growth.

They develop and implement strategic plans for the division, ensuring alignment with broader organizational objectives. Collaboration & Interaction:

The Senior Director establishes strategic liaisons with technical leaders to align funding pipelines with resource mobilization plans. They collaborate closely with the BD Analytics team, providing vital input on data and market analyses to inform strategic plans and targets. Engaging with the Vice President, Business Development & Partnerships, the Senior Director coordinates the allocation of development account funds. This role involves extensive interaction with technical, regional, and country office staff to gather actionable business intelligence and foster strategic partnerships. The Senior Director effectively negotiates significant matters with senior management, executives, and key stakeholders, ensuring that all collaborative efforts are aligned with organizational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge & Skills:

The Senior Director leverages their deep understanding of international development funding systems and their expertise in building strategic partnerships to drive resource mobilization efforts. With a thorough knowledge of donor priorities and funding trends, they prioritize new funding opportunities and craft targeted resource mobilization strategies that align with the organization’s mission and programmatic priorities. Proficiency in US government (domestic and international), foundation, corporate, multilateral, and other government funding systems is essential. The Senior Director has demonstrated success in establishing strategic partnerships with these entities and possesses familiarity with the development and humanitarian sectors and their stakeholders. Previous experience in an NGO or international organization is crucial, along with a comprehensive understanding of organizational structures, policies, practices, and their impact. The role requires a proven track record of meeting budget, schedule, and performance requirements, strong leadership abilities, effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and strong oral and written communication skills in English.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Business Administration, International Management, Public Policy, or a related field required.

  • Minimum of 15 years related experience in business management, program management, international development, and/or cross-cultural communication. Alternatively, 11 years of experience with a master’s degree, or 5 years with a PhD, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience to effectively fulfill job responsibilities.

  • Minimum of 8 years in leadership and management, specifically with operational oversight of multiple teams.

TRAVEL

  • Up to 25% travel, including international travel. Depending on the location, travel to or between Washington DC and Durham may be needed.

  • Typical office environment.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift 5-50 lbs.

TECHNOLOGY

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $200,000 - $220,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
