The Position:

The Private Sector & Innovative Financing Specialist post is based at the Asia and the Pacific Regional Office (APRO) and will work under the direct supervision and overall direction of the Regional Health Economics Adviser. They are part of an inter-disciplinary team responsible for coordinating UNFPA’s strategic efforts to expand and leverage public and private financing in its mandated field in Asia and the Pacific.

UNFPA is looking for a dynamic professional to assist the APRO team in building relationships with the private sector, under UNFPA Workplace Access to SRHR Programme (WASP), to secure sustainable and innovative financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), leveraging UNFPA Return-on-Investment Tool (ROI-T), and to expand the available options for investing in SRHR in Asia and the Pacific Region.

How you can make a difference:

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030. Our strategic plan calls upon UN Member States, organizations and individuals to “build forward better”, while addressing the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on women’s and girls’ access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, recover lost gains and realize our goals.

In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.

UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.

Job Purpose:

UNFPA is on the ground improving lives in about 150 countries, home to 80 per cent of the world’s population. In these countries, the Fund is a catalyst for progress. Ensuring sustainable financing for SRHR in the current economic landscape requires greater reliance on domestic public resources and building on strategic private-public partnerships and innovative financing approaches to implement the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) agenda. To achieve its Strategic Plan goals, UNFPA aims to boost access to sustainable financing for SRHR from various sources to implement the ICPD agenda.

Within its efforts to engage further with the private sector and under WASP, UNFPA APRO has developed the ROI-T to estimate the economic and financial impact of providing SRHR services and training in the workplace, aiming to assist private sector stakeholders in building the business case for delivering SRHR interventions in the workplace. Additionally, the organization seeks to continue to establish and expand partnerships to strengthen financing architectures and promote innovative financing modalities for SRHR.

The Private Sector & Innovative Financing Specialist will assist the APRO team in building relationships with the private sector to secure sustainable and innovative financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and to expand the available options for investing in SRHR in Asia and the Pacific Region.
