The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.
Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Farmers in the Haor Region in Bangladesh face many challenges. Poverty, food insecurity, and malnutrition are more severe in the Haors than in other parts of the country. IRRI in partnership with NGO and other public organizations will be implementing a Project entitled Climate-Smart Rice Value Chain in the Haor Region. The main objectives of the Project are to increase productivity, profitability, and resilience of the rice farmers; promote sustainable and climate-smart practices in rice production systems; increase mechanization in rice production systems; increase awareness and knowledge on rice-based innovations; and develop agri-entrepreneurship with emphasis on women and youth in the Haor region.
Under the direction and guidance of the Project Leader/Supervisor, the Project Coordinator will be developing and implementing the Climate-Smart Rice Value Chain in the Haor region project activities
This position will be based at the country office in Bangladesh, and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Bangladesh.
Base Salary Ranges: (94, 798 - 177, 443) BDT/ per month
