Context:

IOM in South Sudan has a broad range of programming centred around three broad areas: humanitarian coordination and support, humanitarian response and resilience, and peacebuilding, transition, and development. Humanitarian coordination and support include leading/co-leading the Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) and Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI) Clusters, Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and management of WASH and Shelter and NFI core-pipelines, humanitarian hubs and standard transport services. Humanitarian response and resilience include CCCM, WASH, Shelter & NFI, health, protection, gender equality and inclusion, mental health and psychosocial support and the management of a Rapid Response Fund. Under peacebuilding, transition and development, IOM South Sudan Country Office (CO) implements programming on housing, land and property issues, transition and recovery, transhumance conflict prevention, community-based violence reduction, community development and migration management.

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Humanitarian Assistance and Operations and the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Transition and Recovery), and in close coordination with the Program Support Unit, the Peacebuilding Officer (Transition and Recovery) will provide technical support and contribute to the development and implementation of key peacebuilding approaches, including conflict prevention, conflict management and sustaining peace based on practice and academic approaches. Deep analytical acumen is vital for understanding the region's political, social, and economic dynamics, which feeds into crafting long-term strategies for peacebuilding. The Peacebuilding Officer will effectively collaborate with the team and external stakeholders. Given the context-sensitive nature of the role, versatility is paramount to facilitate project alignment with broader organizational goals that effectively address the evolving needs of South Sudan.
