Result of Service
The consultant will deliver the following: • Bilateral exploratory meetings with at least 5 key stakeholders • A workshop to discuss ideas that will support the development of the communications strategy • Presentation of the draft strategy to a working group of banks that are mandated to undertake a strategic process under the Principle’s framework (the PRB 2030), for inputs and adaptation; • Presentation of a further developed iteration of the communication strategy to two groups of stakeholders (the Banking Team, communications experts from the membership), for further inputs • Delivery of the final strategy including the following components: o Relevant Context o The Challenge / Opportunity o Key Objective(s) o Outcome(s) or Key Result / Measure of Success o Assumptions & Constraints o Key Audience(s) o Strategies & Tactics o Requirements o Relevant Campaigns and Implementation Calendar o Key messages • Editing and proofreading services for three publications; • 6 case study videos.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. UNEP FI’s Banking Team is responsible for the initiative’s work with its over 340 member banks in more than 80 countries around the world. This includes overseeing and supporting the implementation of the Principles for Responsible Banking. On 22nd September 2019, UNEP FI member banks representing USD 47 trillion and with that over a third of the global banking industry officially signed and launched the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) together with UN Secretary General Guterres. The Principles for Responsible Banking guide the change towards a new, sustainable global banking industry that takes on a key role in helping society to achieve its goals for a sustainable future. With these Principles, banks commit to strategically align their business with and scale up their contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of the Paris Agreement on Climate. The Principles are supported by a strong implementation framework that defines clear accountabilities and requires each bank to set, publish and work towards ambitious targets and report publicly on their positive and negative impacts and progress in implementing their commitments. Banks that are not in line with their commitments can be removed from the list of signatories The UNEP FI Banking Team needs a consultant to assist with the development of a communications strategy, communications assets, and editing services. Specific tasks and responsibilities: The consultant will: • Hold bilateral exploratory meetings with at least 5 key stakeholders; • Facilitate a workshop to discuss ideas that will support the development of the communications strategy; • Develop a communications strategy and socialize it with key stakeholders to obtain inputs and further develop the draft; • Obtain sign of from the Head of Banking and produce the final version of the strategy; • Develop communications components related to the strategy and deliver these; • Provide editing and proofreading services for three guidance publications; • Develop and produce 6 case study videos. Outputs and Deliverables: The consultant will deliver the following: • Bilateral exploratory meetings with at least 5 key stakeholders; • A workshop to discuss ideas that will support the development of the communications strategy; • Presentation of the draft strategy to a working group of banks that are mandated to undertake a strategic process under the Principle’s framework (the PRB 2030), for inputs and adaptation; • Presentation of a further developed iteration of the communication strategy to two groups of stakeholders (the Banking Team, communications experts from the membership), for further inputs; • The final strategy including related components; • Editing and proofreading services; • 6 case study videos. The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of Head of UNEP FI and report directly to Head of the Banking Team. The final deliverables shall also be approved by the Head of UNEP FI.
Qualifications/special skills
Education: A University degree in communications, marketing, PR, media, international relations, business, event management, Administration, public relations or a related field. Professional Experience: At least 7 years of relevant experience, especially in communications in the financial services sector, or at NGOs, academic organizations, standard-setting bodies, public agencies focused on sustainability and regulation for the financial sector.
Languages
Languages: English is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset.
Additional Information
Skills & Knowledge: Experience in communications related to corporate responsibility and sustainable finance. Track record of working with initiatives of the financial industry, such as the Principles for Responsible Banking or the Principles for Responsible Insurance is highly desired. Extensive experience interacting with and relating to finance professionals, and international stakeholders at senior level. Team player with strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong internal relationships and networks. Motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative and international environment.
