Context:

The Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) sits within the Office of Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications under the overall oversight of the Director General. PSP builds partnerships with the private sector that enable IOM's strategic priorities and engage the private sector as a key stakeholder in migration through impactful and innovative partnerships. PSP leads strategic outreach and engagement with the private sector and provides Headquarters, Regional, and Country Offices with assistance and expertise relating to initiating, establishing, and maintaining partnerships with the private sector. PSP is responsible for the development and implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Strategy which provides a framework for how IOM engages with the private sector to support safe, orderly, and regular migration. PSP oversees engagement with the private sector, establishes and coordinates IOM’s private sector partnerships due diligence process, builds staff capacity in private sector partnership-building, and oversees the Goodwill Ambassador programme and celebrity partnerships.

The private sector engagement strategy 2023 – 2027 sets forth a proven approach based on three main pillars – impact, income, and innovation.# The strategy assists IOM to enhance partnerships with the private sector to foster change in corporate values and practices; enhance protection of migrants’ rights; generate innovative technical partnerships that capitalize upon business expertise and capabilities and grow flexible funding that can support programme implementation and impact globally and advance implementation of the Global Compact for Migration.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Private Sector Partnerships Division, the Private Sector Partnerships Grant Writer will be responsible for researching grant opportunities, crafting, and drafting persuasive proposals, and submitting approved proposals in accordance with the Private Sector Strategy.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Grant Research & Strategy Development:

  1. Identify and assess grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations.
  2. Contribute to the development of a strategic approach to private sector grant opportunities across IOM, including prioritizing various grants and timelines to maximize funding potential.

Proposal Writing & Submission:

  1. Draft compelling grant proposals, narratives, and letters of inquiry.
  2. Prepare and finalize all components of grant applications, checking compliance with funder guidelines and bringing any issues to the attention of the supervisor.
  3. Submit finalized grant applications and monitor submission deadlines.
  4. Under guidance, revise and edit existing proposals based on feedback from stakeholders.
  5. Continuously improve proposal quality by incorporating best practices and lessons learned from past applications.

Capacity Building:

  1. Train and guide private sector focal points and missions on private sector grant application processes.
  2. Create and maintain a knowledge base of private sector grant writing resources and materials.

Support for Partnerships:

  1. Closely collaborate with private sector focal points to help align grant-seeking efforts with partnership strategies.
  2. Provide grant-related support and documentation to assist in the cultivation of private-sector partnerships.
  3. Assist in the reporting and communication with partners regarding grant-related activities and outcomes.

Accountability & Reporting:

  1. Maintain accurate records of grant applications, reports, and funding outcomes.
  2. Monitor and follow up on the timely reporting to funders as required by grant agreements.
  3. Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of grant-funded projects and initiatives to internal stakeholders.
  4. Perform such other duties as may be required for the successful implementation of the Private Sector Strategy.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Master's degree in Communications, Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Proven experience in grant writing, with a successful track record of securing funding from foundations, government agencies, and other grant-making entities.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting comprehensive grant research, developing funding strategies, and identifying alignment between funding opportunities and organizational goals.
  • Prior experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including finance,program staff, and leadership, to gather information and align proposal content with project needs and objectives.

Skills

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, persuasive, and concise manner;
  • Strong analytical abilities to effectively assess funding opportunities, interpret grant requirements, and evaluate project outcomes;
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the capability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously;
  • A keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of grant preparation and reporting;• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with funders, partners, and internal teams;
  • Proficiency in grant management systems, databases, and standard office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software;
  • In-depth understanding of private sector partnerships, fundraising, philanthropy, and UNagencies; and,
  • In-depth understanding of migration and business and human rights.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
