Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the internship position encompass all aspects of the Directorate’s work on preventing and countering the misuse of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) – to include the Internet, social media, video gaming platforms, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies – for terrorist purposes. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: • Assist in collecting and analysing data contained in communications and publications received from difference sources, including from UN documents, reports of international and regional organizations, and open-source outlets; • Assist in researching and analyzing legislation, policies, trends and new developments relating to ICT, including moderating terrorist content online, terrorist use of emerging technologies, privacy and data protection, digital evidence, the use of emerging technology, human rights, and other related topics; • Assist in preparing documents and other administrative tasks necessary for the organization of CTC/CTED meetings, workshops, webinars and other events relating to ICT matters; • Contribute to the preparation of background notes, statements and talking points for meetings, missions and other events of relevanct to the ICT team; • Research, draft and update ICT information for country profiles and assessment tools, and prepare requested background documents for high-level meetings, assessment visits, and other events; • Review, translate and edit documents as required; • Attend and take notes at meetings, conferences and other events; assist in the preparation of meeting summaries, web-stories, and reports of discussions; • Assist in other ad-hoc activities as instructed.

Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship programme. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their UN professional history profile (PHP), including previous internships and volunteer positions. Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications. Applicants should have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations, as well as a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this internship, fluency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in another United Nations language is desirable.
