Communications and External relations (CER) department
As part of a dynamic team, the Media Relations and Communications Manager will play a crucial role in shaping and executing communication strategies that enhance the institute's visibility and reputation. The successful candidate will work closely with senior executives and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders to communicate the institute's achievements, research findings, and strategic initiatives. The incumbent will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the reputation of IIASA and stakeholder relationships. Additionally, the ability to effectively manage and mentor a team will be integral to ensuring the successful implementation of communication campaigns and projects. Strategic thinking, creativity, and strong communication skills will be essential in driving the institute’s communication efforts and achieving its organizational goals.

Proven track record of successfully developing and executing international communication strategies and media relations campaigns, preferably in an international organization, media outlet, scientific or research-focused entity.
Demonstrated capability to leverage and expand a strong media network, along with established relationships with international journalists and influencers.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences; proficiency in additional languages, notably German, desirable.
Exceptional team management skills with demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate team members.
appointment terms
Candidates should be available to take up the position as soon as possible in 2024 (start date negotiable). We offer an initial fixed-term, full-time employment contract for one year, with the intention to extend to an open- ended contract thereafter.
Duties will be carried out at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, near Vienna in Austria.
