Duties and Accountabilities:

The Paris Agreement on Climate Change aims to stabilize the increase in Earth’s global mean temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Mitigating climate change and helping our clients and member countries adapt to climate change risks and impacts is a strategic pillar of the WBG.

The decarbonization of the industrial sector is critical to achieving the climate change goals of the Paris Agreement.  The challenges facing many industries, particularly energy-intensive ones, are significant and require a multi-faceted, collaborative, and phased approach.
