Position Title: Director, South Florida

Reports to: Assistant Director, Programs PIH-US

Location: South Florida, Remote (on-site in Immokalee and in southern Miami Dade County several days a week and up to 10% travel outside of South Florida as required for other PIH retreats and meetings)

Position Type: Full-time (may include evenings and weekends)

Our current focus communities include Montgomery, Alabama; Chicago, Illinois; Immokalee, Florida; Newark, New Jersey; Massachusetts; North Carolina; and Pima County, Arizona. We capture learnings from across this network to mobilize resources, advance policy change, and lay the groundwork for stronger community health systems nationally.

Position Overview


This position is a leadership role responsible for developing and leading PIH-US's technical advising, and programming in Collier County, Miami- Dade County and surrounding areas. The Director will drive strategy, set programmatic goals for PIH-US’s work in south Florida, and build relationships with community and regional partners. The Director will serve as the primary liaison with PIH-USs local public health and community health partners in the development of effective equitable public health and community responses to address chronic disparities and lack of access to services faced by vulnerable groups in South Florida. In addition, the Director will collaborate with PIH-US colleagues across the U.S., as well as globally, to bring learnings and insights from local to national and international advocacy and communications initiatives and to bring PIH-US’s cross-site learnings to our south Florida partners. The Director will serve as a member of PIH-US's senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

Strategy Development and Resource Mobilization (30%)

  • Lead strategy development for the next phase of PIH-US's work in South Florida, in close collaboration with the PIH-US Assistant Program Director, Program Director and Executive Director.
  • Identify new opportunities for PIH to add value and maximize impact, alongside local partners and community leaders to achieve shared health equity goals; build and sustain strategic alignment and collaboration among diverse partners including local public health, FQHCs, social service organizations, labor rights and other community partners.
  • Collaborate with PIH-US Assistant Director of Programs and Director of Partnerships to develop and sustain a resource mobilization plan and steward fundraising efforts for PIH-US's work in South Florida, including assessing funding opportunities, contributing to proposal writing and budget development, and building and stewarding relationships with regional and local funders.

Technical Advising and Program Delivery (30%)

  • Develop and implement PIH-US's technical advising support for our partners on community health workforce development and community health systems strengthening.
  • Support partner community health program development, including implementation design, supervision/mentorship, and training.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in relevant government agencies and with other implementing and technical partners.
  • Interface with key stakeholders across all partnerships to ensure alignment with project objectives and budget, and lead meetings among the project partners and stakeholders.

Team, project and budget management, and evaluation (30%)

  • Provide leadership, administrative and managerial oversight and monitoring of workstreams and priority initiatives in collaboration with local partners.
  • Supervise the project team including the Project Manager(s) in addition to other junior staff and/or volunteers; provide team with regular coaching, feedback, and mentorship.
  • Manage recruitment and onboarding of project staff as needed. Manage communication channels and ensure continuity and transparency across stakeholders.
  • Oversee work planning and project management plans to support implementation.
  • Evaluate performance using appropriate key performance indicators and project metrics, in collaboration with PIH-US monitoring & evaluation team; support donor reporting as needed.
  • Support budget and project management, tracking FL-specific grants and spending, with support from PIH finance, grants, and compliance teams.

National PIH-US strategy, advocacy and communications (10%)

  • Serve as a member of the PIH-US leadership team, ensuring strategic and operational alignment with PIH-US learning, advocacy, and communications priorities and programming.
  • Collaborate with PIH-US communications team to tell the story of our work for multiple audiences.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for PIH-US in both internal and external engagement, including collaborating with and providing external reporting to funders and other partners, and contributing learnings and insights within PIH-US and PIH networks.
  • Engage in national PIH-US advocacy and coalition-building efforts to advance the broader movement for health equity in the U.S.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in relevant fields related to public health.
  • 8-10 years of experience in public health program development and implementation with a preference for experience working with community health workers.
  • Ability to meet and work in-person with partners in Collier and Miami- Dade Counties and neighboring communities several days a week.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills, able to think creatively around program objectives and the detailed steps necessary to achieve these goals.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing partnerships and collaborative programming.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, demonstrated through prior experience working in start-up-like environments building new teams or programs and/or flexibility in the face of rapidly evolving scopes of work and new challenges.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and health equity.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and diplomacy.
  • Prior budget management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing and prioritizing many projects simultaneously in a complex and fast-paced organization and setting.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with staff and leadership across a diverse range of departments and organizations.

Preferred

  • Experience with community health programs either in the U.S. or abroad.
  • Proven experience crafting and executing strategy for innovative initiatives.
  • Familiarity with U.S. public health systems.
  • Keen understanding of working within the public sector.
  • Experience managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience supervising teams in complex environments.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Creole a plus.
