Job Description

Company Description

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 1.000 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

As Operations and Development Manager, Strategic Communications, you will join a growing global team preparing to transition to a new operating structure. You will have the responsibility of day-to-day oversight and keeping track of the big picture in various operational areas. You will also help build out and implement policies and processes in a range of operational functions to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. You will play a key role in shaping a new operational setup including the implementation of relevant digital tools in the areas of regranting and contracting. Communication with internal stakeholders such as the wider Operations Team and the global strategic communications team, as well as with external partners will be an important part of your work. You will report directly to the Operations Director, Strategic Communications. This role will suit an Operations professional with a solution-oriented mindset who enjoys working in dynamic and collaborative environments.

Key responsibilities

Working as part of the Operations Team, and in close collaboration with other operations roles, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Lead on developing and implementing core policies and processes in areas of regranting and procurement to meet the day-to-day operational needs of the global team
  • Lead on implementing a new grant management system as a part of a revision of operational infrastructure, within a bigger project on operating model transition and feed into other relevant workstreams as needed
  • Oversee different aspects of operational management and supervise, provide direction, guide, and develop the team in areas such as regranting, procurement, governance and ops-related donor work
  • Monitor compliance with approved operations policies, procedures, and processes.

  • Demonstrable work experience in operation management, project/programme management and/or administration, and dealing with philanthropic foundations
  • Line management skills
  • Strong time and priority management skills, attention to detail, diligence and reliability
  • Proactive, forward-looking, and able to "connect the dots" using lateral thinking
  • Capable of balancing strong process orientation with flexible, solutions-oriented approaches
  • Proven track record of working in an environment that demands professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Client orientation and the ability to identify and articulate operations business needs in collaboration with colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both spoken and written), other languages a plus
  • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment where remote work is the norm
  • An ability to take responsibility and work with minimal oversight
  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in an international, multicultural community of peers, and the ability to work across international norms and values
  • A significant interest in climate and the environment
  • A passion for excellence.
