Qualifications

Purpose of consultancy

To develop easy to follow training aids on active surveillance and other pharmacovigilance courses to be made available on ‘Open WHO’.   Additionally, the consultant will also be required to develop and support a plan for the step-by-step introduction of an active safety surveillance protocol in a number of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Background  

The World Health Organization (WHO) is addressing various aspects related to the safety of new COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics. In this context, the WHO Pharmacovigilance (PVG) team has developed various guidelines and protocols for the safety monitoring of new COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics, safety monitoring in pregnancy and criteria for good safety communication practices. In order to implement the protocols, training aids and materials are needed. Such aids include videos and animations, PowerPoints, role plays, how to do manuals, all of which will be made available on the WHO Pharmacovigilance (PV) website, WHO Collaborating Centres interactive platforms and on the “OpenWHO” platform for use by healthcare workers and study participants. 
A consultant is needed for the development of training materials for WHO study protocols and other pharmacovigilance trainings.

Deliverables

Deliverable 1: Develop the content of various modules of the proposed teaching aids. 

  • Deliverable 1.1: Prepare first drafts of the different modules of the teaching aids. 
  • Deliverable 1.2: Meet regularly with a high degree of responsiveness with leads in the PVG team to present, review and update the draft modules of the teaching aids. 
  • Deliverable 1.3: Finalise and submit web ready final drafts of the teaching aids. 

Deliverable 2: Develop the script for videos and animations for various modules.

  • Deliverable 2.2: Work with the selected video and animation producers to design and produce training videos and animations.

Deliverable 3: Implementation of an active safety surveillance protocol in countries through dissemination of training materials.

  • Deliverable 3.1: Review the study protocol for molnupiravir safety surveillance to prepare a draft plan for its implementation. 
  • Deliverable 3.2: Meet regularly with the technical lead in the PVG team to review and update the draft plan.
  • Deliverable 3.3: In collaboration with the technical lead, adapt the protocol to country requirements. 
  • Deliverable 3.4: In collaboration with the technical lead, organize relevant trainings of country participants in the implementation of the protocol in countries. 

Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

Educational Qualifications:

Essential:

University degree in biological sciences, pharmacy, medicine or public health.

Desirable: 

Diploma or qualification in education or certificate in pharmacovigilance.

Experience

Essential:

Over 5 years’ experience in developing and executing innovative digital strategies for promoting learning and capacity building in low- and middle-income countries.

Desirable:

  • Experience in developing work plans with budget and tracking KPIs.
  • Experience in working with international organizations such as WHO. 

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Google Drive: Sheets, Docs, Slides.  
  • Technical writing, research and data analysis skills.
  • Project management skills.

Languages required:

Essential:  

Expert knowledge of English

Remuneration and budget (travel costs are excluded):

Remuneration:

Band level B - USD 7,000 - 9,980USD per month.

Living expenses (A living expense is payable to on-site consultants who are internationally recruited):

Expected duration of contract: 

  • Maximum contract duration is expected to be 5 months. 
  • Additional contracts of maximum 11 months may be offered based on satisfactory performance.

  • The purpose of this vacancy is to develop a list of qualified candidates for inclusion in this advertised roster.
