Job Title: Consultant- Head of Growth

Division: PPF - Private Partnerships and Fundraising Division

Duty Station: Berlin, Germany. Remote agreement can be considered.

Type of Contract: full-time regular Consultant

Duration: 11 months (expected start in January 2022)

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. Around 20,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor.

To reach a world with zero hunger, WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships. ShareTheMeal is WFP’s fundraising and awareness-raising app. Free to download, the award-winning app is a pioneering way for people to join our efforts in creating a world with zero hunger.

ShareTheMeal currently has more than 6 million users worldwide, who have shared more than 125 million meals (US$ 60 million). WFP is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy for individual giving, and ShareTheMeal is a key driver for this strategy going forward. The team, located in Berlin, is focused on further developing the app to include new and innovative features, and on increasing the engagement of existing users and growing the user base through marketing and communication initiatives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting directly to, and working very closely with, the Head of ShareTheMeal, the Head of Growth is responsible for driving business development and revenue generation across the user journey and through the various growth levers, to achieve ShareTheMeal's ambitious sustainable growth goals. This includes marketing, product, content and partnerships. Under the guidance and supervision of the Head of ShareTheMeal, the Head of Growth will:

Shepard the strategy formulation for the next phase of scaleup growth of ShareTheMeal:

  • Craft the strategy for each of the growth levers (ie. digital marketing incl. paid and non-paid, product, partnerships, communications, etc.) in accordance with ShareTheMeal’s vision, incorporating input from leadership and key stakeholders
  • Build hypotheses and data-based business scenarios, goals and forecasts for the strategic priorities
  • Develop execution roadmaps, incl. dependencies, key milestones and resource / budgeting requirements
  • Ensure alignment across key internal and external stakeholders on the strategy and associated building blocks
  • Provide input into quarterly and annual planning of team-wide objectives

Ensure operational excellence in driving the strategy implementation:

  • Ensure success goals, OKRs and metrics are defined, agreed upon, tracked and surfaced in the proper forums
  • Drive implementation of the strategy across internal teams, in conjunction with team leads, the chief of staff and Head, striking a balance between longer-term strategic building activities, meeting mid-term goals, as well as realizing quick wins
  • Use research, data and analytics for decision making and measuring operational effectiveness, as well as driving a culture of structured experimentation and iteration to drive growth
  • Support transformation from paid marketing to a more sustainable product-led growth
  • Leverage partnerships and nurture win-win relationships with new and existing partners to further boost this revenue stream and execute on partnership-led growth (eg. with gaming or food delivery platforms)

Manage team performance and development:

  • Lead high-performing teams to create and implement strategic initiatives in support of the goals and priorities, across performance, paid and organic marketing, social media marketing, product, content and partnerships
  • Mentor and coach direct reports and their reports as needed, to ensure performance in the team is sustained and continuously improved
  • Instill a culture of customer centricity and experimentation, based on data and insights


DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

  • Demonstrable growth of ShareTheMeal, in accordance with set objectives (eg. donation targets, donor quality targets, brand equity gains, marketing efficiency, etc) and within the budgetary constraints
  • Strategic priorities, incl. budget and financial activities are planned, tracked and reported in line with WFP standards
  • Efficient and effective implementation and reporting for operational priorities, incl. business performance analysis and change management
  • High performing teams using data to drive decisions

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, STEM, or a related field. MBA strongly preferred.

Work history

  • 8-11 years relevant experience including as a seasoned business consultant at a senior level, head of product management, head of marketing and business development, or related.

Technical expertise

  • Essential computer skills in Microsoft Office applications: proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Proven ability to lead experienced product management, digital marketing, and content teams
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and craft data driven business cases
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, plan, manage, develop and monitor processes
  • Proficient in the use of work productivity tools, as well as innovation-enabling tool (eg. Miro or Figma, JIRA, etc)

Soft skills

  • Resilient and results driven. Proven ability in developing strong relationships with reports and relevant stakeholders
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively with an innovative mindset that is constantly looking for ways to improve things based on data and customer insights
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative and flexible work style
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • A very good communicator. Strong presentation, listening, written and verbal skills.

Language(s)

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language would be a plus (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
