The Meteosat Data Collection Service (DCS) is one of the core services operated by EUMETSAT in support of meteorology and weather prediction. DCS offered by meteorological Satellite Operators enable the relay of environmental data from Data Collection Platforms (DCPs) to end-users. DCS is particularly useful for the collection of data from remote and inhospitable locations where it may provide the only possibility for data relay. One of the methods used for delivering DCS data to users is via the Internet through an existing DCS Web Service. The DCS Web Service can be improved to offer users a more modern system to access DCS data via the Internet, providing new functionalities and enhanced capabilities.
The purpose of this internship will be to identify and work towards an improved method for Data Collection Services delivery via the Internet. The outcome of the internship will be compiled into a set of DCS Internet access requirements.
The intern will achieve this through familiarisation with the current EUMETSAT DCS Web Service and those of other satellite operators, understanding of the current system limitations, consideration of user needs and feedback, and identification of new technologies for DCS data delivery via the Internet.
It will be required to understand and consider existing and planned EUMETSAT online data access services and to collaborate closely with the Data Services development and User Services teams.
The internships are open to master students with mandatory internship requirements in relevant disciplines such as computer science, software engineering, information technologies.
The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. It is necessary to be able to work effectively in English.

Additional specific requirements:
Length of internship: 3 - 6 months
Anticipated start date: Anytime in 2022

Interns are responsible for providing their own health and accident insurance and for finding their own accommodation in Darmstadt.
EUMETSAT is committed to providing an equal opportunities work environment for men and women.
Please note that only nationals of EUMETSAT Member States may apply. The EUMETSAT Convention requires that Staff shall be recruited on the basis of their qualifications, account being taken of the international character of EUMETSAT.

This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.
EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.
As an intergovernmental European Organisation, EUMETSAT has 30 Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.)
