How can you make a difference?
UNICEF is seeking a consultant with private sector fundraising expertise to help position and drive support for polio campaigns from HNWI, corporates and foundations. The overall objective of this role will be to map out existing resources and lessons learned from current private sector engagement, and develop a series of packages and propositions, as well as facilitate outreach to potential new donors and work with existing corporate donors. The consultant will primarily develop products and approaches for UNICEF with the polio team, but will also work closely with other UNICEF sections, country offices and National Committees, as well as GPEI partners involved in the Private Sector working group to align messaging, carry out research and when relevant design partnership-wide fundraising proposals.
Key functions and accountabilities include the following:
1. Carry out a mapping of current private sector relationships and products
a) Review existing partnerships with private sector donors, approaches and channels, particularly towards capturing lessons learned and identify successes and opportunities
b) Review existing products (e.g. concept notes, GPEI and UNICEF web-based resources), with a view to identify gaps and additional needs
2. Support and/or lead prospect prioritization and engagement, depending on agreed relationship leads amongst partners, and areas of potential engagement, including geographies
a) Prioritize prospects from existing mapping exercises and compilations
b) Support prioritization of general industry target areas, and carry out due diligence according to UNICEF and partners’ criteria
c) Prioritize corporate prospects that have a strategic interest in countries where polio campaigns are planned in Africa and Asia, with a particular focus on markets with high potential (based on existing mapping and prospect listings, adding some corporates with an interest in global health programmes)
d) Working with partners in developing the approaches and pitching to prospects
3. Collaborate on a series of fundraising packages and products for private sector prospects, and ensure alignment with overall GPEI strategy and programming, as well as the new investment case currently in development
a) Assess the UNICEF polio programme with a view of identifying a range of different fundraising products or packages suitable for different audiences, including cross-GPEI proposals
b) Collaborate on the development of concept notes and packages for a range of audiences and channels (eg online donations, large-scale concept notes, by area of work, geographies), in conjunction with UNICEF staff and Communications consultants.
4. Enhance donor recognition/visibility across UNICEF and GPEI, in conjunction with UNICEF sections, partners and the UNICEF Polio External Communications Specialist
a) Assess opportunities and channels for donor recognition for private sector donors across UNICEF and GPEI channels, including websites, communication pieces, reports, etc
5. Participate in meetings and lead on outreach efforts with UNICEF National Committees and GPEI partners, including virtual field visits, and provide inputs and support the organization of events/speaker panels, as these become defined by UNICEF and the GPEI Private Sector Working Group
a) Act as the polio focal point for assigned UNICEF National Committees
b) Develop and tailor communications for outreach as needed
c) Participate in bi-weekly/monthly GPEI Private Sector working group calls
d) Support conceptualization and implementation of donor panels, speaker and special events, including developing concept notes, talking points, speeches and presentations; identify relevant guests and carry out event organization.

U.S. Visa information: With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.
